“Amazing location, great property”
Reviewed 23 November 2011

Moraine Lake Lodge is located in of the most beautiful locations in all of the Canadian Rockies. We stayed for two nights in September in a deluxe cabin. The cabins themselves are quite small but come with a great wood burning fireplace, which is cleaned and restocked with logs daily, a small sofa and armchair and balcony. They are not five star deluxe but rustic and clean and you are paying for the location here more than anything. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant and the quality of the cooking was excellent. If you stayed for more than a couple of nights you would probably like to drive to Lake Louise to try some other restaurants though. Also, Kevin, the on-site naturalist, was very good and you should definitely attend one of his guided hikes, which are free to residents.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in October. The view of the lake from our room was spectacular. The room was very nice and comfortable. Considering that the lodge is only open about 4-5 months per year, we were very impressed with the staff. Everyone was so helpful and pleasant. We especially enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea accompanied by delicious pastries. The lodge also offers a complimentary hiking guide for small groups hikes. We highly recommend this lodge!

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room with a good view of the lake.

Moraine Lake Lodge is still one of the most relaxing places in the Canadian Rockies. For us, there is no reason to leave the immediate area. We can relax and read, enjoying the wood burning fireplace in our cabin or go for a stroll along the lake shore or go for a longer hike further into the back country. We can mingle with the other guests at the complimentary afternoon "tea" in the Lodge library, or just keep to ourselves. We definitely would not go anywhere for dinner other than at the Lodge restaurant.

In 2011, the Lodge has added WI-FI access. For us that is an erosion of the communication isolation that has made this location so great. But some people find constant contact with everyone else on the planet essential.

The only word of caution is to be bear aware and obey all of the Bear Regulations.

My husband and I spent 3 days and 2 nights in one of the beautiful cabins at Moraine Lake Lodge. We had a perfect view of the crystal blue lake, the majestic mountains and the lovely trees. When we first arrived, my husband was so moved by the view from the sunken living area that he spent an hour just reclining in the chair enjoyng it and thanking God. The Lodge staff supplies plenty of freshly cut wood to build a fire in the fireplace, something he loved doing (though each cabin has a fully functioning heating system and thermostat)! I was so blessed to see him relaxing and being refreshed. On the second night we had reservations at their 5 star restaurant. The food was incredibly delicious. My husband loved the butternut squash soup so much that I insisted he have another bowl. We did our hiking in the woods around the lake by ourselves but one can sign up for their various guided tours. We just wanted to experience as much as we could on our own uninterrupted since it was our first time there. I must mention the staff, esp the manager Michael. Most of them bend over backwards to ensure that your stay is beyond pleasant. They want you to love your accommodations and they really care what you think. Michael has been there 17 years but has the enthusiasm and joy of someone who is enjoying his first year. We enjoyed our time chatting with him. We pray that we will return to Moraine Lake Lodge again and again. I hope anyone who decides to go enjoys it as much as we did. I think you will love having a private cabin even more than one of the lovely rooms. It is definitely worth it.

From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out our stay was nothing less than perfection. The staff could not have worked harder to make my 85 year old grandfather comfortable and to ensure this was a trip of a lifetime for him. Our Lodge Room was beautiful, comfortable and had an amazing view. Since I was travelling with someone who could not get out and enjoy the hikes that are in the area we instead spent our time in the library reading, on our private balcony and enjoying a fabulous dinner each night. I can not wait to go back with my husband to really enjoy all the Lodge has to offer!!

This is a beautiful remote location with amazing views. The lodge is perfect and all rooms I saw had fantastic lake views. The staff were very helpful. The restaurant was equally beautiful if rather expensive and "nouveau cuisine" for my liking but the food was excellent, and the staff were very attentive.
The walks from here were great and for suitable for various abilities. I would recommend an hour or two in a canoe on the lake if the lake is still as it was for us. This was free for guests.
We stayed 3 nights but would have loved longer.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building which was very convenient and the room was great. There are separate...

three nights here were a brilliant start to our holiday. not cheap, but was a surprisingly friendly and informal atmosphere, Staff were all very helpful. stayed in the cabin with log fire, balcony, etc. well worth the additional cost. Highlights included the complementary guided hike with a super, well informed guide, and the free use of canoes on the lake. Food pricey but good quality - but what a location!

Breakfast buffet was very ordinary but adequate

Waking up to find a porcupine using our front door as a bathroom made our holiday!!
