So glad we managed one night at this superb hotel in a magnificent setting, wish it could have been more.
The accommodation is full of character, we especially loved the hunting-lodge themed decoration in our room, the bathroom and throughout the hotel. Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy our balcony as it was raining on our arrival and by morning it had snowed and we didn't want to leave the cosy comfort of our bed. We couldn't believe the view from the room - the colour of the lake is unreal!
Breakfast was good and service at all times was friendly and efficient.
As a bonus, on the evening of our stay there was a wildlife talk in the library from the Banff Park's grizzly expert, which was really interesting - and deserved a bigger audience.
The restaurant food was excellent - see separate review.

The color of this Lake was stunningly beautiful. We enjoyed the walk around the lake the views were just spectacular. It's just hard to believe unless you see it in person how wonderful that area is. I cleaned up the big pile of rocks at one end of the lake and took some spectacular pictures

If you aren't staying at the Lodge and want to see Lake Moraine, you must arrive EARLY! The parking lot fills and then nobody else can get in. We arrived at 5:30am and hiked up the rocks so that we would have a stunning view of the sunrise. It was amazing. I can't put into words how incredible it was. We rented a canoe which was expensive but well worth it and paddled around the lake. We also took a hike around the lake - very easy and mostly flat trail. I would love to come back and stay at the lodge. This is a MUST SEE destination.

The lodge has well appointed 'rustic' accommodation with a gas fireplace in each room. Stayed in the main lodge and had beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Had a fantastic dinner in their dining room. Breakfasts were fantastic and the staff really helpful. Particular thanks to Joel, Carl and other kiwi guy at jetty - kayaking on the lake is a must and as the level of the lake was low, this experience was only available to guests. Hikes in the area were fantastic. Compared to the circus that is Lake Louise, this place was serene. Worth the money to stay. It was the 'oasis' of our Rockies holiday.

First, let me say that the overall experience of this lodge was fabulous. We stayed in cabin #5 for two nights in September 2017. We originally booked it because we wanted to hike the Paradise Valley/Sentinel Pass/Larch Valley hike and end up snug and warm in our fireplace cabin at the end of the hike. Due to snow (third time this has happened to us!), we could only hike the Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass part of the hike but it was a fabulous hike - the larches were just turning and the snow came and stopped. Loved the view from our cabin, loved the wood burning fireplace (not sure what they do but it was really easy to build a roaring fire), loved being able to experience Moraine Lake in the mornings and evenings without the crowds. The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable (they all seem to be avid hikers), housekeeping was great and we had the best dinner at the lodge's restaurant in our nine days in the Canadian Rockies. The breakfast that as included with our room was also excellent. Three negative items - the bed was extremely uncomfortable - in fact, my husband said it slanted and we tossed and turned for two nights. The bathroom is very, very tiny. Storage space is not great. Having said that, would we return again? Yes, because the overall experience was so wonderful.
