Firstly the Whitehorn restaurant has lovely food. Sadly that is today where the praise ends. We love our food and not prone to complaining. So my husband and I wanted a treat ( knowing it was more costly than some other places to eat) reserved a table for our final meal in Lake Louise before homeward bound the following day. We prebooked the 1.45 slot that morning, rather than the 12 noon slot. We were prompt and on arrival at restaurant they informed us they were shutting at 2pm to lay tables for an evening event so if we could be quick with our ordering. After 15 minutes we finally put our order in for food. The starter Mussels were lovely, as was my husbanbs fish chowder, but we had to ask for cutlery and there was no finger bowl for the mussels. To our surprise half way through our starter they arrived with our mains, no apology, it was just placed on the table. This has never happened to me in any restaurant before inexpensive or not, and quite frankly rude and unacceptable. Of course my meat waz cold when I got to it and my husbands ribeye was overcooked ( ordered medium rare). Unable to get anyones attension we ate our food. When it came to desert we were told the kitchen was closed some 40 minutes after sitting down. So in response and after complaining at the end of the meal, with no aplology or bill discount, I would strongly advise that you check when the night skiing is on so you dont receive the service we did and ask the staff to recognise this error when a taking a pre booking allow for extra time or notify the guest. Sadly a real downer on our last day with what otherwise has been a fantastic stay in Lake loiuse. For evening meals try the post hotel pub, Station House restaurant, and even the International Hostel has resonable food for the cost. For an alternative treat try Pre-bookinh Lake Louse fairmont for afternoon tea as sadly we missed out on this little treat, but sure to come back.
