first, book direct with the resort and you will not have to pay a $25.00 per day resort fee. We were quite disappointed to start with but the resort kinda grew on us. This resort is for the younger, more adventerous group. We are retired and prefer a 3/4 star facility. breakfast is ok but so-so at best. Be aware, the mimosa's are $8,00 each extra. The room is clean but is short of furniture and a lot of what they represent. The bathroom is very, very tiny. No housekeeping available. No alarm clock. Coffee but no cups.

We spent six nights at the Ocean Gate and were very happy with our experience. The breakfast is included and cooked to order, and included a choice of eggs, pancakes, fruit and yogurt, bacon or sausage, toast, and assorted juices, teas, and coffee. The room was clean and adequate with a gorgeous view off the balcony. The room was kept up well but still unpretentious. The grounds and pool area were well maintained. The amenities were wonderful and included sea kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, ping pong, fire pits, mini-golf, and more. The staff were friendly too. This hotel was a fantastic value, would definitely recommend!.

Nice hotel in a fantastic location. Rooms are very clean and the staff friendly. The facility is older so keeping it in top top condition is a challenge. You can tell there have been investments made in recent years. Great spot for the kids with lots to do.

The resort grounds were very nice and welcoming. We enjoyed the mini golf and kayaking. Breakfast was pretty good and the staff was very nice. Our ocean view from our balcony was breathtaking. The only things that we thought needed improvement were the rooms, hot tub and life vests for the kayaks. The rooms could definitely use an upgrade. Everything in the room were pretty outdated and there was an old stench smell. There wasn’t enough toilet paper and we had to go to the office to ask for more and for towels as well since the cleaning person never showed up. The life vests were also very old and some of them had spots on them that looked moldy. The hot tub wasn’t clean when we went to use it. It would also be nice if lunch or dinner was also served. Besides that, we really enjoyed our stay and would probably stay there again if upgrades are made.

The drive into this resort sets a clear tone. Winding gently through acres of Maine woods, it gives one the feeling of escaping the somewhat touristy scene in Boothbay Harbor. The resort occupies about 30 acres of coastline, with gorgeous views of the inlets and neighboring rocky shorelines. The 5 main buildings are sited just out of view of each other, each with nice views. The buildings are a bit dated, but well maintained for the most part. The rooms are over-sized and comfortable but definitely a bit dated. Our double room had a kingsize bed, two upholstered chairs, a desk, a mini-fridge, and a private balcony. The complementary breakfast, served in a separate building with both inside and outside seating, offers Maine blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup, sausage, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. Kayaks, canoes, and bikes are all available at no extra charge, but they are offered on a first-come-first-served basis, and the numbers are not ample, so plan accordingly. The Ocean Gate is definitely not the lap of luxury, but it is nonetheless a beautiful and pleasant place to stay.
