Traveled to Red Deer this past weekend and discovered our usual hotel had botched our reservation and did not have a pet friendly room for us. Called the HIExpress to find out the price for a pet friendly room including pet fees and while it was slightly more than our usual hotel, we decided to go ahead with it because we were so tired. They did not provide us with an itemized breakdown of our bill at check in but assured us the pre-auth amount was the grand total plus a $100 security deposit.
On check out their system was down and they said they'd email the receipt so we were shocked when our total bill was $200 than we were quoted at check in for our total. Our dogs were crated the entire time they were in the room and they were never left unattended so it couldnt be for damages and we confirmed our quoted price included pet fees three times before we checked in but now they're claiming the extra $200 is for pet fees - again?!
So basically we paid $50/night on top of their advertised rate on their website (and slightly more again than on Expedia/Hotels.com) PLUS an additional $50/night to have a pet friendly room. Sketchy business practices. Huge lack of disclosure. Steer clear.
