Such a surprise to find such a large theater in such a small town. The shows are of a much higher quality than one might expect so far from major centers. When I came here from a large city I was a little apprehensive about the standard of the shows but they are all good and some would rival any production anywhere. In this quaint little town, you can book into a bandb or hotel, play a round of golf and then see a great show at the theater in the evening. Their buffet is worth a visit. Typical buffet food but the quality is very good
The food and service is great - a fun evening out for light entertainment. Nice to wander about town prior to the show as well.
This little theatre is a gem! We’ve heard of its reputation for years and finally decided to visit. Now we’re kicking ourselves for not doing so sooner! We went for the package deal that includes tickets to the show (currently the wonderfully entertaining Twist and Shout, playing until the end of August), the buffet dinner, and a night at the Best Western Chemainus Inn (with complimentary buffet breakfast) to save us driving back to Victoria. Everything was great! Our seats were perfect—in the Centre, Row E—but I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house. Stacked seating ensures that no one in front is going to block your view. The dining room is lovely—try to get a window seat—and the menu was amazing. We’d chosen a Thursday night because Roast Lamb was featured (according to the website) but alas, it was substituted for Roast Beef. The salmon with mango salsa more than compensated. It was fabulous, as were the many desserts I sampled!! Make sure you visit the Gift Shop during your visit, especially if you’re shopping for a unique gift or souvenir.
The town of Chemainus, once a company mill town, has reinvented itself since the mill closed down, and what a fantastic job the community has done—first with the famous Murals (always expanding) and now the Theatre. It’s a great town to explore, with yellow footprints on the sidewalks taking you to all the murals (including the ones in the “old town”) and unique, interesting shops, many of which feature Vancouver Island artists. For visitors to Vancouver Island, Chemainus is well worth a visit, and taking in a theatre production is the icing on a very delectable cake.
Always a pleasant evening at the Chemainus Theatre: a buffet dinner in a classy setting and productions that are second to none. Every seat has a great view of the stage and sound is good. Particularly love the musicals.
Tonight we are going again to see one more show. We almost never miss any show that are paying at this world renowned theater. But do go for dinner upstairs in the renovated dining room. To night is British night (buffet). We have never bern disappointed with the food and again the theater is great.
Amazing buffet, we had a wonderful time, dinning room is very nice. The show was awesome, the theater seating is awesome no matter where you sit.
