Did the Kelowna - Penticton trip August 10, 2020. Great day. Ben picked us up right on time, dropped us at the start with two perfectly adjusted bikes (didn't have to change a thing) and we were off. It is a memorable ride. The first, most famous section, over the 18 trestles and 2 tunnels of Myra Canyon is flat and picturesque. The next section to Chute Lake stretches a bit but passes one more impressive trestle and offers fantastic views of Kelowna and the West Bank (West Kelowna now, I guesss). By the time you get to Chute Lake Lodge, you are ready for a juicy burger, fries and gravy all washed down with in ice-cold cider. It doesn't get much better! Then it's on a nice, downhill grade all the way to the Naramata bench and the pick-up point (Ben was right on time). Stunning views of the bench and lake for the last hour or so. While the price may give you pause - get over it. It is a trip you will never forget. And with its gentle grade (a railroad ROW is great for that), very forgiving for those not in the best of shape. Definitely 5 Stars. Thanks Ben & Family.

We didn’t go all the way to Penticton, just the 24km out and back ride across the trestles and through the tunnels. What an amazing and worthwhile ride over an engineering marvel. It’s an easy drive to the very well organized rental Centre, and the ride is basically level on a well maintained trail. If you go, get there early, because by noon the trails are busy. The views are wonderful, as is the work of the volunteers who keep the trails in good shape.

Thank you for your positive review. The trestles at Myra Canyon really are magnificent and must-see for anyone visiting the Kelowna area. And they certaining are an "engineering marvel". In fact, the Kettle Valley Railway is also referred to as Mcculloch's Wonder in reference to Andrew Mcculloch who was the KVR's chief engineer. What is interesting is that Mcculloch was actually educated as an accountant and learned engineering in the field. Kelowna is so fortunate to have a treasure such as Myra Canyon in her own backyard. Hope to see you again

Today we went to the bike rentals at Myra Canyon. Tried to call to inquire about the bikes the day before but no answer. Tried to book bikes the night before but they require 12 hours notice to book the bikes. Ok, so we decided to take our chances and drove up. Upon arrival we wanted to try our luck with bikes for 2 adults and 2 boys. The man (older with French accent) who “greeted” us was absolutely terrible and should not work in customer service or hospitality. First he made us feel bad about not having a reservation. Ok. Then, I mentioned that we would only ride for 1-2 hours and he cut me off saying “it’s the same price no matter how long you ride” - making me feel cheap. My intention was to say that if the afternoon was full we did not intend to take the full 4 hours. Then he checked to see if there were enough kids bikes at the moment. There was not. He told us we could sit and wait somewhere on a bench as long as my 2 young boys were quiet. He had to mention that he heard them in the lineup and said we could only wait (which was another 2 hours) as long as they kept quiet. Unbelievably rude for him to say. Didn’t know we were in a church or library, we are in the middle of a mountain. My kids were excited and he definitely ruined everyone’s day with his absolutely poor attitude and condescending tone as if we were riff raff. Never has my family been treated in such a manner before by a stranger, never mind someone who works in tourism. And to top it off, as we left that container, we adults were talking to see what we should do next, wait or hike, and we inadvertently wandered into the tent where you sign waivers. He came at us immediately and told us rudely to get out from under the tent as if we were cattle and a big bother to him. Wow just wow. Unbelievably rude and uncalled for. Sorry we accidentally stood under your tent to talk while no one else was under it. Needless to say you ruined our day, not to mention my 7 year old son who was celebrating his bday that day. I called you out on your rude behaviour right there and you should have apologized. We did nothing to deserve that kind of offensive treatment.

We are sorry to hear about your disappointing visit to our bike rental station. We do our best to provide the best service possible and accommodate everyone; Unfortunately, we seem to have fallen short on your visit.
Due to COVID-19 we are forced to work under stricter rules and regulations as prescribed by WorksafeBC, Health Canada, the B.C. government and other governing bodies. This means that due to limitations put upon us, we have had to operate differently this year. As is mentioned on the front page of our website we are operating with a limited fleet of kids and adult bikes, no tandems and are unable to have a concession stand. This limitation in combination with your unreserved visit on the busiest day so far, meant that we were out of kids bikes. Our voicemail indicates that reservations can be made on our website, or if you had left a voicemail the day before, it would have allowed us to call you back and inform you of the availability of bicycles and the reservation process.
Furthermore, we have spoken with the employee involved, who has many years experience in the hospitality field and extensive experience as a public speaker for audiences of all ages. He has explained his point of view and has apologized to you in a direct message to let It be known it was not his intention to offend you. Everyone is free to do as they please while in the parking lot, but once you enter our roped of areas it is like entering the doors of our business and we carry the responsibility of enforcing all the COVID-19 related rules and Guidelines. If our staff does not enforce these rules, we risk facing fines or being shut down. The employee did what was asked of him by enforcing those rules on your visit. He has made an apology to both us and yourself that if you took his wording as offensive, he did not mean it to be offensive.

Although we were unable to help you with a bike rental, we offered a place to sit and wait in case bikes became available and explained what you could see if you chose to hike. We apologize for the perceived hostility by our staff, but we must continue to enforce the COVID-19 rules in order to keep everyone safe.
We are a family business and value the importance of a great day out with your family. If you are ever concerned with anything including the treatment by a staff member, we always have one of our family members on site to assist your family. (or send an email which are all handled by a family member as well.)
Hopefully on your next visit we can provide you with bikes and a more positive experience.
Kind regards,

Myra Canyon Bicycle Rentals and Tours Inc.

This had been on my bucket list for a while. Booked the day b4. The road is dirt for about 8km and does have wash board and pot holes. We had a jeep but there were cars making the trip. Great staff. Very professional. Great equipment. You can't beat the experience. Wouldn't suggest for kids younger than 10 years old due to the trestles but we saw others with pretty young kids. Great trip.

My boyfriend and I were independently cycling the KVR and were about 12 kms from Myra when my boyfriends bike had a catastrophic wheel failure after hitting a rock. We figured our trip was over as a new wheel was needed. We walked to Myra hoping to get help, expecting to have to go into Kelowna. We told one of the staff of the Myra Canyon Bike Rentals, who turned out to be Jo, the son of the owner of the company, of our situation. Our bike was an older, 21 speed with 26 inch wheels. Jo said he happened to have put a similar bike in the van that morning and went to get the wheel from that bike. It was a perfect match! We asked if we could buy it and he said yes. We fitted the wheel and all was good. We went back to Jo to ask how much the wheel would cost. We clearly had no bargaining room, and were just happy to be able to continue with our trip as planned, so would have been happy to give whatever he asked.
Jo would not accept any money for the wheel. He said the biking community helps each other out, and wished us a good trip.
What a wonderful and generous gesture! Thank you so much for this unexpected amazing experience and for the reminder that there are good, kind people around! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We are so glad that we were able to assist you. You are more than welcome. Jo is a very accomplished bike mechanic and biking enthusiast and knows the unexpected can happen at the worst times. He was more than happy to assist a biking comrade in distress. I will pass along a big thanks to him on your behalf. Glad it all worked out. Thanks.
