Swy-a-Lana Lagoon is a small man made saltwater lake situated in Maffeo Sutton Park. It is connected to the ocean during high tide. A walkway encircles the lagoon.
There are also, fountains & plantings around the lagoon. Children like swim in the lagoon & play on its sandy beach.
The park features a covered bandstand where music & dance events take place in the summer. There is an excellent children's playground. Also, a lovely lawn where summer festivals take place. The ferry dock to Newcastle Island is situated in the park.
There are ever-changing art displays, food trucks at various times, toilet facilities, & a dock for crabbing. It is a great place for a family picnic, a walk or a jog. There is even a huge picture frame set up to self-frame your photos.:)
The park is tied into the waterfront walkway and in the center of the downtown waterfront. Young kids will enjoy the playground and adults the unique tidal man made pool. Fills up and empties over a spill way located below a bridge. Quite unique
Wonderful waterfront walk if you leave port place and walk around the condos by Gabriola ferry all the way to the end and back its 6 kms nice little coffee shop and great gelato too.
