Spa like rooms

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 8, 2017
My wife and I lived in a standard 2 story 3 bedroom house in the Uplands area, we decided one day that we needed a break away from home, friends of ours had come to town a few years back and told us about this amazing bed and breakfast just around the corner.
So we booked for a couple of nights, it was amazing,
The room had a built in jet tub, great views and the breakfast was great,
Over the next 4 years we went back 3 times just to pamper our selves even though it was just around the corner.

There are new owners at this B and B since 2016. They are trying hard. The B and B is in a difficult location, down a road near a drop off that has no railings in places. The parking requires some difficult turning around near a drop off.
We were greeted nicely and led to a very narrow, dark space between a granite wall and the garage wall. Thankfully the space did get wider. After walking around the garage, we came to a steep staircase leading down to the room. (More staircases down to boat dock and hot tub.)
The room, Madrona, has good bones with hardwood floors, a gas fireplace, and anice view of the lake. However, it is less than ideal to have a toilet situated behind a plastic accordion door in a corner of the vanity area, which offers no privacy from the bedroom. (I suggest they replace this door with two doors that meet in the middle.). There is no light in the toilet closet.
The shower has a clear glass door leading to this vanity area, also limited privacy.
After the first night, the hosts kindly removed a mattress topper from the bed that we had found too soft. That was a great improvement.
The breakfast was orange juice, yogurt, some fruit, an egg, a few slices of potato, two "hot dog" pieces wrapped in dough and a kind of " empanadas?"
Richard the chef, kindly brought our bags up the steep steps to the car in the morning. (He had previously brought them down to the room.)
Helen and Richard are very nice hosts but there are some difficulties with the physical layout of the Property.
We did use the hot tub or the boats. Lake view is lovely.

Hi, we just wanted to say that yes the toilet area in the Madrona Suite was an issue, which has been completely resolved. In fact all of the suites have been fully redecorated and they turned out beautifully!

We arrived in the rain and left in the rain!

The hostess showed us to our room, down some 26 steps. The inn cascades down a cliff side on four level! Fortunately, our host helped with our bags.

Our room had a king bed with large windows overlooking the lake. Too bad it was raining. There was a kitchenette, nice sitting area with a gas log fireplace and a small bathroom.

Breakfast was excellent and cooked by our host. Her served it in chef's attire!

This is a very nice property, but if you have problems with stairs then it might not be the one for you.

Room tip: Be sure you know what amount of stairs you are getting into with your room!

We had a lovely room overlooking the lake (just visible through the trees). The proprietor was very pleasant, polite and helpful and there were canoes etc at our disposal to use on the lake. The downside was the poor breakfast - no choices; you had to eat what was presented which was not really a breakfast meal at all - wantons and cold fried egg!!! The tv channels were very limited too, making it difficult to find a decent programme to relax with late at night. We stayed for two nights but after the first day we noticed that our room had not been cleaned or attended to. All of these are small points that could make this a lovely place to stay but this time I didn't feel that it was good value for money.

There are no doubt many fantastic places to stay on Vancouver Island but clearly there is so much to like about this place. The private quiet location at the side of Long Lake with its own jetty and hot tub are a start but then venture inside and check out the room we had....totally amazing!! Spotlessly clean and views out over the lake. Direct access to the shared lounge/breakfast room and a host that is happy to ensure your visit is the best possible.

After you think you are finally lost in this neighborhood, the BnB is at the end of the road. Helen met us and escorted us through the "grotto" and showed us our stunning room. This place is magical. A short walk down the stairs and you are right on the lake. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boat are waiting for you . They have a nice patio and a hot tub too. Helen is a great host and her husband is an excellent breakfast cook. If you get back on the hwy and head north, all the restaurants, liquor and grocery stores you need are 5 minutes away. Drinking wine with our feet in the water, watching a bald eagle at sunset was heaven. Thanks for having us!

Room tip: This place is booked up way in advance and I now know why. Get reservation early!
