Kayak Rental by Ian at Coast Bastion Hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 12, 2024
hot tip for a kayak excursion - ask for Ian at the hotel desk. He will rent his beautiful two-person kayak by the hour, with the convenience of driving you to the boat launch nearby. We had a fabulous time paddling around the small islands, over to the pub on the dock & he picked us up and drove us back to downtown Nanaimo. after - terrific, convenient outing with no ferry fees 😃

Clean and bright hotel in the heart of Nanaimo and within walking distance of many shops, restaurants and attractions. Good onsite amenities, including a pool. Staff are friendly and customer service oriented. Food in restaurant is good, they did have some staffing issues the night I was there for dinner which led to some delays. I’d definitely consider this hotel for a return trip to Nanaimo.

Room tip: This hotel hosts a lot of conventions and meetings, and may be booked up even in off-season. Booked ahead.

We’ve checked in to this hotel for a night in Nanaimo and was very happy with our stay. We got a room on the 12th floor with an ocean view. We also had the best view for Northern Lights. The room was huge with a window-type AC and a King size bed. I am glad there’s no carpet in the whole suite and bathroom was spacious and very nice. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Parking fee is $9 per night. The location of this hotel is a winner. It’s in the downtown and by the waterfront and close to ferry terminal. This hotel is highly recommended.

We stayed on our way to Tofino. We booked a premium king with an ocean view. We were not disappointed. The room was newly renovated, furniture all new and the view exquisite.
The staff is warm, welcoming and helpful. The restaurant is very good and we enjoyed our salmon as well as our breakfast.
Our only regret was we didn’t stay longer.

Room tip: The Premium King Ocean View is worth it.

We have stayed at this hotel several times. This was the first time we have stayed at it since the renovations. We were in a King OceanFront room. The room was stunning! From the moment we stepped of the elevator you could feel the difference. The blue/watery theme really captured the Island feel.

The check in process was easy. The room was spotless. The bed was comfortable. We chose to bring food in because why waste that amazing view. Parking was secure.

We would highly recommend the newly renovated suites.

Thank you for an enjoyable getaway!

I needed an operation at the local hospital and as I live north of Nanaimo I decided to stay at the Coast Bastion. What really struck me was the comfort of the room and the amazing service from all staff who helped me considerably especially on my departure post op
