There is an off leash area for the dogs that is just wonderful. Many trails through the park. We can fish in the lake, view the ducks, view the otters. People are so friendly as you walk on the trails.

Colliery Dam park is the best place within the Nanaimo city limits to let your dogs roam around off-leash. Be careful though, there is a designated woofie area at this park. The furry kids can only be let off their restraints in the upper park area.

There are a myriad of trails around these small lakes, and groomed well so that people of all ages can enjoy the stroll. There are boardwalks, bridges, and several stairs around the middle dam lake. The lower dam lake path is mostly paved, and is easily navigable for wheelchairs with the aide of a helper.

These small lakes are sometimes stocked with rainbow trout, and in the summer months you will find the shoreline dotted with fisher-folk, trying out their luck.

Bring those 4 legged kids. They will love you for it!

Colliery Dam is a great place for a stroll to spend some time with nature. If you like to fish the dam is stocked a couple of times a year with trout. You might even see a bear or two, or a cougar. The trails are well marked, and connect the upper and lower dam. During the winter months the overflow spillway is a must see. You can take your canoe/kayak/non motorized boat of any sort onto the water and enjoy a calm paddle.

Dressed warmly to stroll through this park is a perfect way to de-stress from holiday pressures. Take your friend, your family or borrow a dog if you don't have one. Relax and enjoy!
