“A beautiful, must see gem just off the beaten path”
Reviewed July 13, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had an amazing two week stay at Cassiar during our fishing trip this year. Mark and Justine are amazing hosts who will strive to assist in making your stay as memorable as possible. We stayed in the Coho House (1 bdrm) and enjoyed many nights relaxing on the deck watching sunset and water after a day of fishing. Very quiet and scenic property! Can’t wait to visit again next July!

The cannery is at the “end of the road” and is very secure, there is a gate at the entrance and two “guard” dogs (that are very friendly but just “look and sound mean”). The Rail Road goes through the property and we have been told that the passenger train can accommodate pickup/drop offs at the cannery. You can walk along the road and pick all sorts of berries, there are also some water falls on the sides of the roads that you can see if you look.

The cabins are very unique, and the beds are very comfortable. Some of the furnisher is made by hand from reclaimed wood that floats up the skeena river.

Liked best: hospitality, hosts, relaxing, quiet, scenic stay.
Liked least: Road entering is a little bumpy - no fault of the owners - just have to take slow if towing boats. Very nice that it is at the end of the highway though!

“A delightful gem off the beaten path with true hospitality.”
Reviewed June 25, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

MIke and I loved our comfy bed with it's pristine, high-thread count sheets and fully operational kitchen. The deck was right on the Skeena River, and we were able to catch the Northern Lights in the clear, gorgeous night. Mark and Justine are wonderful hosts, friendly and helpful well beyond the minimum, and the setting of the old cannery is perfect for those who enjoy a comfortable accomodation in a wild and wonderful place where bald eagles perch on the nearby dock. Don't miss Cassiar Cannery! Read two fuller blog posts here:

“The most natural awesome spot accessible by car on the north coast”
Reviewed June 23, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This old cannery site still contains the former cannery managers' homes, plus a lot of other derelict docks and some functional buildings. Justine and Mark have tastefully and with great skill and effort changed an abandoned cannery, in the heart of one of the best locations for commercial fishermen in the mighty Skeena River estuary, into one of the best accommodations in the region and a functioning shipyard. The view is fantastic from the waterfront porches and buildings' windows just above the tall grasses of the intertidal shoreline. The comfy, clean cabins were restored by Mark (a shipwright) and Justine who are both wonderful hosts. Most of the wood has been milled right on site. Yes, the train shakes you, but this historic site in an abundant natural setting is not to be missed.

“Very scenic and peaceful”
Reviewed June 19, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Justine and Mark have created a beautiful relaxing setting with remodeled cannery homes sitting on the Skeena river. We were well treated and appreciated the extra help with storing our vehicles to hauling our catch from the boat to providing a large pot for the crabs.
We will try and rent again when we next go to the coast.

“Fantastic location to get away - work retreat.”
Reviewed May 16, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

From the minute we arrived for our work retreat Justin and Mark were fabulous hosts - the setting and layout were absolutely stunning - perfect to get away for 3 days and have a relaxing, peaceful stay with co-workers. The beds were more comfortable than a high end hotel which created restful sleeps. Would certainly consider this for family reunion or a get away with my husband. Stunning views of the beautiful nature of Northern BC were amazing the entire time we were there.

“Step back in time”
Reviewed October 16, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this place at that last minute while preparing for some work I had to do in the Prince Rupert area. The alternative would have likely been a motel in Rupert which I am sure would have been fine. But in my experience picking the place that is slightly removed and has some character is generally the better way to go. That was most definitely the case this time around.

Cassiar is like a little time capsule at the end of the road (it is quite literally at the end of the road). I do not know the exact dates and history of the cannery, I probably should have asked Mark or Justine, but after a hard day of work it was just nice to put my feet up in the beautiful cabin and look out at the beach or fire up the BBQ and make some dinner.

The cabins are spacious, immaculate and well outfitted with anything you need. If there is something you don't find Mark or Justine are more than happy to help. Time and time again they both went far beyond what is expected to help out. Yes this is the north coast of Canada and you kind of expect to find nice people but Mark and Justine....well I probably can't say enough so I will just leave it at that.

I will definitely be back to Cassiar. If you are looking for a place to stay in Rupert I suggest you head out of town a little and check it out. You won't be disappointed.
