Amazing place. If you can stay overnight, rather than do a day trip, do - its totally worthwhile. There is a floating lodge just out side the park boundary that is wonderful - you float plane fly in and out. Twice a day you go on Zodiac trips up and down the fjords - looking for bears, but also to the estuary of the Khutz river, and down river looking for humpbacks.
We saw brown bears every trip, sometimes up to 5, even though September is a slower time for them. We were lucky to see three coastal wolves, hanging out on shore - they were a bit more wary of us than the bears. Salmon- you betcha.
But the highlight was humpback whales bubble net feeding - imagine 4,5 or even 13 huge whales lunging up at the sky, rising 15-20 feet above the water in unison. Amazing! Take a look at video on the web - the yellow cover border nature magazine has some great video, just like what we saw.
We have done of nature/ecotourism - Serengeti in Africa, Galapagos, Amazon, Pantanal in Brazil, many places in Alaska and the US. This is right up there with the peak nature trips.
