“Fun for Families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2012

We stayed over the Remembrance Day weekend and had a lovely time braving the rain and wind to stroll on the beach and watch and listen to the waves from our balcony. The hotel was very gracious to our three-year-old, the staff working as much to make him feel welcome as they did us, his parents. The room was big, and the fireplace kept us cozy all weekend.

Lovely hotel and nice rooms. Food was tasty, quite expensive. Service was really good. Fireplace in the room was a sweet touch especially as it was raining the whole weekend. Hotel has a car that you can use to go into town and this was a nice feature as we fly in for the weekend. Enjoyed the experience but wouldn't stay again, over priced.

Room Tip: Nice rooms, loved the fireplace

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property. It's small, it's intimate, the staff go out of their way to assist you. The newly renovated rooms are amazing! The views are incredible. My husband and I can't wait to return - next year for sure!!
Loved the heated floors in the bathrooms. And.... my husband and I both had spa treatments and they were fantastic!
We will return!! (just not soon enough!)

This hotel is the epitome of understated elegance. The decor blends seamlessly with the vast natural landscape before it. My husband and I stayed in an ocean view room with lovely views of one of the many rocky outcroppings surrounding the hotel, and had the joy (and anxiety) of watching a newly married couple in full wedding dress climb about and around the jagged rocks jutting fromn the ocean floor.

The hotel's restaurant had top-notch service, served exceptionally fresh seafood, but was very pricey.

The location right on the beach was exquisite - wild, untamed and magical. We visited in June -and it was not warm, but brisk, and we had to weat light jackets to break the ocean's wind, even on a mid-afternoon walk.

The spa is heavenly. The first 30 minutes of my booked massage was spent in a Muskoka chair facing the wild ocean, where my feet were soaked and lathered in a warm wooden bucket. Pure luxury.

I would recommend this hotel for couples of all ages, but especially those who do not need nightlife or activities to keep themselves entertained. Buy a bottle of wine and sip it by the fire in your room. The ambiance second to none, but you will pay for it!

I first read about the Wickaninnish Inn (the Wick) in a New York Times article in 2007 reporting on a trip to see the northern (Yellow Knife) and the western (Tofino) reaches of Canada. The writer was on the hunt for the elusive northern lights and big storm waves. Obviously, the article stuck in my head since the first thing I did was hunt down the Wick when planning my recent trip to Canada. In a nutshell, the Wick did not disappoint. Although I had traveled there with the intrepid Nancy B (aka the B) to see some big waves and hopefully hear them crashing against the windows of the Pointe Restaurant, we found ourselves blessed with 2 1/2 rare sunny days in February that we used to roam around Tofino and the area surrounding the Wick -- I've chronicled some of those wanderings on my blog at http://theworldawaitsme.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-tofino.html. The Wick is pretty much worth every penny of its cost (it lies on the high end of the spectrum). Our room, on the ground floor of the beach building, had a lovely view of Chesterman Beach, a gas fireplace, and a "rocking tub" with a view of the Beach. There is an attention to what guests might need here-- ranging from the usual accouterments of a hotel in this price range (robes, nightly turn down, luxury toiletries) to rain slickers, pants and boots; hot chocolate (nice touch), binoculars and bird books, big comfy chairs in fron the fire place, and candles PLUS a microwave. The rooms are quiet and spacious and a great place to hunker down on a chilly winter day or (I am thinking) to launch an adventure from on a warm summer day. If you are carless (as we were), the Wick staff will ferry you into town in a Lexus and pick you up when you are ready to come home. Staff are friendly and always ready to answer a question or offer advice on what to see and do in Tofino -- the Wick's hometown. All in a all, a lovely Inn in an idyllic spot at the edge of the Pacific ocean. It's well worth the long trek north on Vancouver Island and the surrounding area is among the most beautiful on the North American continent. I'll be back for sure.

We took advantage of winter rate and went up to Tofino this weekend. The room was on the first floor with an excellent view of the ocean. Everything in the room was impeccable. We were really looking forward to the dining experience at the Point Restaurant. However, when my boyfriend ordered the "Tasting menu", the four glasses of wine was extra $48, plus the dinner of $80. We were expecting a full glass of wine each, but each glass they serviced was one ounce to two ounce at most. The dinner on the tasting menu was good but still though quite expensive at $80. Our total bill was over $200 before tip. The Sobo restaurant in Tofino was less expensive and more food for the dollar.

Room Tip: The ground floor with ocean view is the best.

Our room was beautiful, facing the rocks/ocean. Lovely bathroom. If you go as a couple and decide to use the spa services, please get a hot stone massage in the Ancient Cedars Spa's couple room. The Sea Flora products are excellent. The sound of the waves is simply delicious. A wee warning: if you're tempted to do something exotic, I would skip the "Hishuk Ish Tsawalk Awakening Treatment" and go for a straight hot stone massage instead. The ritual aspect of it was interesting (in a thematic and theatrical way), but the highlight was the massage and the rest of it seemed like entertainment.

Walks along the beach are unique (the sand is packed quite solidly, as opposed to "regular" sandy beaches) - the waves make a beautiful impression on the wet sand and bits of driftwood and seaweed seem like decorations strewn across the terrain. Bask in the smell of the trees, ocean and nature all-round. Take a little walk in Tofino - there are some great little stores with very reasonably priced souvenirs. If you're into natural body care, Sea Wench has some lovely products.

I would LOVE to return one day, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: Face the ocean!!!!
