We took a chance, it was super foggy when we headed out. The hike is a tough one, lots of elevation gain in a short distance. Once we got to the top, we were pleased to see that the fog had burned off. Got some terrific shots of Tofino and the harbor from the viewpoint.

We took the Tofino Water Taxi to get to this very steep, but also very worthwhile hike! Definitely best on a clear day- so if the normally cloudy weather in Tofino clears, jump on the boat right away! :) Keep the view in mind to motivate you up the tough climb. We lost the trail flags a couple times when we were climbing over lots of roots, but we always found it again. Good hike for those who like hiking!

Be careful, this hike is advertised as fit for moderately fit people!

it's tough I'm fit but not experience such poor track and a possibility for danger, steep incline with plenty of hidden dangers, no air lift possible and very lonely place.

little tip when you see the NO PASSING sign continue heading upwards do not turn right, it was not clear when we were there and the track took us 1.5 hours off course!

Takes 6 hours plus and should only be done on sunny day as no point in mist. Very muddy too.

While staying in Tofino we decided to Hike the Lone Cone Trail. While it was fun and rewarding the pamphlet we read only suggest a "moderate level of physical fitness". Now my friends and I are fairly in shape, we hike quite frequently and this trail was a little difficult for us at times. I would definitely recommend reading more about this trail before just deciding to go do it as it can get very steep and gruelling.

Did this hike in Oct 2013. Was a very foggy day but we hoped that by time we got to the top of Lone Cone we would still be afforded the beautiful view we had seen online. Took the Tofino Water Taxi out there (freezing cold journey in October!) Saw some neat waterfowl and sea otters (yes, not river) on the way over, though it was so foggy we couldn't see very far around us.

The hike started off pretty good, muddy but flat. After about 1/3 into the hike it got much steeper. Seemed to go on forever!! I would say worse than the Chief or the Grouse Grind in Vancouver. Alas, when we finally got to the top the fog had not lifted enough and we did not get the view, but overall was a nice way to spend the day and certainly felt like a workout (took us about 6.5/7 hours round- allowing for breaks and snacks obviously!).
