“Excellant Value”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

Took a last minute trip to Tofino with the kids and was very happy with the studio suite that we were able to book. The rooms are a little dated but clean and the staff was great! We loved the pool and hot tub, again both were clean. I have worked and stayed at the highest end hotel in Tofino, but sometimes its nice to stay somewhere a little more casual, especially with two young boys. Excellant value, and would totally come back!

This is hardly a pretentious new resort, but it is well-maintained, comfortable and clean. The rooms are well-furnished, parking very convenient, the beds comfortable and the views of the ocean and beach just yards away are excellent. A small, but well-appointed kitchen. The only downside we can think of (and we're working hard) is that the water pressure was a bit low, so it took the tub a while to fill. We stayed there by chance when a camping trip got rained out; now we would seriously consider choosing it for any future trips to the area. Excellent value.

Just ending a girl trip to Vancouver Island and Tofino and Ocean Village was the highlight of our trip. Our cottage was a corner unit right on beautiful McKenzie Beach. We rented a two bedroom cabin that sleeps 6. There were 4 of us and it was super comfy. Stocking up on groceries at the co-op in Tofino was an easy 5 minute drive from the cottage. We cooked great meals and enjoyed relaxing in lounge chairs. Rented stand-up paddle boards from a place down the street and enjoyed morning walks and coffee on the beach. There's also a short but nice trail that takes off from the north side of the beach. We loved our stay and wished it would have lasted at least a week!

We stayed in a two level cabin with our family and loved it. Loved the rustic feel, the location on the water, and the staff were great too.

I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a nice place on the beach that's not too expensive. It's family friendly too.

We stayed here from August 21 - 24. We booked in March for this stay as the units seemed to book fairly quickly. Our reservation experience was fine and check in was straightforward. Keep in mind that Tofino is a fairly long drive from any of the ferry terminals on the Georgia Strait (Nanaimo, Swartz Bay or Victoria), so you will have to allow for travel to this resort. The office closes at 9:00pm, so if you arrive after this, they leave a key in an envelope for you.

We stayed in a Lower Studio unit. It had a queen bed just inside the entrance, a four-piece bathroom and a seating area, dining and kitchenette overlooking Mackenzie Beach. The two couches double as single beds. The kitchen has a 4 burner stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and sink. There are place settings for 4. There is no TV, radio or phone in the unit. There is free WiFi, but the signal is often weak.

The Lower Studio unit opens out to a lawn with two outdoor lounge chairs and a picnic table. The units are distinctively shaped (they look like Quonset huts) with cedar shake shingles down to ground level. Each hut has a Lower Studio and Upper Studio. The Lower units are larger than the upper units, I believe, but I did not enter an upper unit. There are three two-bedroom units on the beach front, plus some one bedroom cottages as well. Our unit was in the second row away from the beach, but the elevation on the site allowed for easy beach views. The site also has a communal BBQ area, a heated saltwater pool (max 4.5 feet deep) and a hot tub. There is a laundry facility. Board games, books, bike rentals, beach toys, etc. are available for rent at the office.

We came for a rustic style stay on the Pacific Coast and got exactly what we were looking for at a fairly reasonable rate, at least by comparison to other similar properties. The units were clean, but a touch worn. Some of bathroom fixtures were in need of repair. There is a bit of a "do-it-yourself" feel to the rooms, pool area, etc. Also, due to the style of construction, there is a fair amount of noise transfer from the Upper unit down to the Lower.

In summary, if you want high end amenities, Ocean Village Beach Resort is probably not a good choice. However, if you want to be close to the beach and get away from your technology for a little bit, this might be a good choice.

Room Tip: Try to get a groundfloor room. It has better access to the grounds, especially if you need to lay y...

I stayed here for 4 nights, Aug 15-19, 2011. There were 3 of us (girlfriends) and we had a one bedroom studio, ground floor. The unit was small but surprisingly adequate for 3 adult. There was a queen bed in the bedroom area and 2 daybeds in the living/dining area. I must say the daybeds are more suited for children, would not recommend for adult taller than 5'2", but was not uncomfortable. We had a wonderful view of McKenzie Beach from the living/dining area, a large grassy lawn and picnic table and 2 adirondak chairs. The pool and hot tub were right across the parking lot. Hot tub a bit hot for our taste, but the pool was very nice and refreshing. The resort is right on the beach, and a beautiful one it was with lots of hard sand for walking and small islands just off the beach. Sunsets were great too. We rode bikes a short distance (about 3 miles) into Tofino on a flat bike path, and also did some hiking in the Pacific Rim Park. Kitchen was quite adequate for cooking almost all our meals. The free high speed internet connection was spotty from our cabin, but excellent if we took the computer to the office and used it there.

The office staff were very friendly when we arrived and took the time to tell us about all the things to do in Tofino.
We stayed in the Garden View Suite and it was newly renovated. Right down to brand new dishes. Even though it wasn't right on the ocean, our room was bright and spacious with a kitchenette and a flat screen tv.
They have go-carts for the kids to rent and zip around the resort.
They supply all the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and coffee you like.
The ocean view is amazing. Especially the sunset.
We had a wonderful stay and i would definitely recommend this resort!
