If you are not wanting a 5 star formal dining experience then the Driftwood Café at the Wickaninnish Inn is a great alternative. Light and casual options and a great choice for breakfast as well. We enjoyed a great cheese platter to share plus a glass of wine on our first night at the Inn.

The Driftwood Cafe is a lovely spot to stop and just relax over a coffee, watching the beach, having a snack. It’s chilled, distinctly Canadian in decor and has the perfect cultivated vibe of a boutique hotel.

Service was impeccable and staff were lovely.

Their chicken sandwich is amazing! Staff is friendly and location is perfect. Patio has view of beach. Highly recommended for grabbing a bite.

One of the things on my would like to do list during our visit to Tofino was a walk along Chesterman Beach and a stop off at Driftwood Cafe for coffee and cake.

What a disappointment.

After sitting at the table for a few minutes we assumed we had to order at the counter as no one came to the table. There was a very limited amount of items available and when we asked the person behind the counter if they had any more of anything the answer was simply ‘no’. The person that served us was rude and disinterested, in fact seemed quite put out that we were there at all. We placed our order at the counter and we weren’t advised whether they would bring it to the table or whether we had to wait at the counter for it so I had to hover round while the person made the hot drinks. It was only when I saw her put it all on a tray and asked if she was bringing it over did she bother to talk to me and say ‘yes’ (and that was all!)

Anyway my coffee was lukewarm and obviously had been sitting in a flask for a very long time. We shared a scone (because that’s all they had left) and then waited for some cutlery to be brought over - I daren’t ask for a knife after the frosty reception we’d been given at the counter!

All in all terrible customer service and just disappointing - felt like I needed to apologise to the rest of my family for even suggesting it!
