“Fantastic service, quality accommodation, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2012

We stayed for 2 nights en-route from London to Whistler for a family ski holiday. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the serve at L'Hermitage was exceptional. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and I couldn't single out any of them above the rest - what a great team.

We stayed in a Signature one bed suite with den which was of a good size and VERY well equipped. The kitchen and bathrooms (x2) were top quality. Our rate included the boutique breakfast which is one of the best you will find anywhere. Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, home made granola etc.

The hotel is located on the corner of Richards and Robson so is great for walking out into the heart of Vancouver. Attached to the hotel is a great Italian restaurant and hotel guests get 15% discount.

I will definitely use the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good base in central Vancouver

i needed some r & r for a couple days and i found quiet, deep sleeps at L'Hermitage. the staff was 'over and above' helpful. every person that i saw (concierge, maids, etc.) smiled and engaged me in conversation. they looked happy...and you can't really fake 'happy'.

the room decor was modern and simple. comfortable bed. although i used the workout room, i did not use the pool or hot tub this time around.

the location was a perfect jumping point to all the exploring i wanted to do. the transit system in Vancouver is so easy to understand...and affordable. however, i mostly walked...because it was sunny...and i had the time ;)

We stayed for just one night after travelling into town using ViaRail's "The Canadian" from Toronto and when we checked out next day, we were sad that the stay had been so short.

The first pleasant surprise was being able to check in and use the room immediately on arrival (about 10am). We had only been expecting to drop our luggage, so it was a real bonus to be able to unpack have a shower and change our clothes straight off. The stated check in time is in the afternoon, so maybe we were lucky that the room was already serviced.

From the reviews we had read, we had high expectations and we were not disappointed. The room was large and well appointed, with all the amenities we could wish for, especially the very comfortable bed.

In the evening we dined in the Italian restaurant which shares the same building as the Hotel and were pleased to be able to obtain a discount (15%, if I remember correctly) on presentation of our room card. The food, drink and service there were excellent too.

We were not flying home until the evening of the day we checked out, so we took advantage of a late breakfast and had our baggage stored in the Hotel while we explored Vancouver centre on foot. All the good shops were within a few minutes walk and there are lots of them!

The breakfast was excellent and a special mention goes to the waitresses in L'Orangerie. Great service, very polite and attentive withour being intrusive.

L'Hermitage is amazing! We had a reservation at a hotel we made online, but when we saw it we didn't stay. We found L'Hermitage and it saved our romantic getaway! It is beautiful, met every need and pampered us in luxury. Amazing staff, fantastic furnishings. it's close to everything downtown, we walked everywhere. We enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi! It was a dream! We couldn't imagine a better place with any better service. The best place we've ever stayed!!

I recently stayed at the L'Hermitage for 8 nights and found the rooms to be spacious, new, well appointed and homely (especially with the fireplace). The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

QUICK SUMMARY
PRO: 9/10 for staff. location. Breakfast. Spacious room. Quiet.
CON: Internet didn't work. Found some hair on the bed when we arrived.

This is not a traditional hotel. It is a shared building with residential units. Still, it was real quiet. I felt safe and overall enjoyed my stay there.

When we arrived, there was no one at the Valet. After 5 minutes, we went inside - bad first impression - but they sent someone right out. The check in was fast and staffs were friendly and super helpful. We stayed in a spacious 1 bdrm w/ no kitchen. Didn't use the tub, but the shower head can use better water pressure. We found multiple hair strains on the bed though ... gross!

We stayed Sunday night so the restaurant was closed. We went shopping and asked the front desk on our way out for an extra rope in our room. When we returned, the rope was hung inside the closet along with the rest, but no extra sandal. So one of us walked bare-foot to the hot tub.

The turn down service was lovely: they folded out the sofa bed , turned on the fireplace, and left out chocolates. It was relaxing to come back to that after shopping on Robson St (which is located around the corner). Hot tub was great. The pool was not deep and is narrow, but we were alone, so it wasn't an issue. There were some kids from couple of floors up that was whistling and screaming at us, so that was kind of annoying. I wish we could order some drink at the hot tub, though.

On our way back from dinner at almost midnight, one of us stopped at the concierge desk and chatted for a while (his name starts with a C ...?) and he gave some cool local advice about how to order alcohol the Canadian way :D

Breakfast was SUPER SUPER yummy and fresh. Totally worth $17.50/person even if I had to pay -- so go eat there!!!

Our main compliant was that the free wireless internet didn't really work. We all have different cells, plus an iPad, and none of us could connect. We mentioned this at check out and were told the service was down last night. The gentlemen didn't say sorry or anything .. just kind of moved on to checking us out. If I had bought work to do with me, which I usually do, it would have been a disaster -- so this is my one concern that may prevent my return. I need my internet.

The bed was too firm to my liking, but that is a personal preference.

Room Tip: 5th floor is where the fitness center, pool/hot tub, and breakfast area are at.

Dear AlyxisPaige,

Thank you for your very detailed quick summary. We appreciate your comments and the 9/10 score for staff, location, our 'SUPER SUPER yummy and fresh' breakfast and your room!

Please allow me to address some of the other areas you mentioned in your review of our property.

L’Hermitage Hotel is nestled quietly within an upscale residential complex in the heart of downtown Vancouver. A bank of exclusive elevators whisks our guests to the secluded 5th, 6th and 7th floors of the building where our amenities such as L’Orangerie Lounge; our Outdoor Salt Water Lap Pool & Jacuzzi and of course our wonderful guest rooms are located.

Each one of these rooms and suites are individually checked by a highly trained and detail oriented housekeeping supervisor before they are occupied. Perfect room cleanliness is always our goal and one of the keys to our success as indicated by many reviewers here on TripAdvisor and I thank you for bringing your discovery to our attention.

On the evening of Sunday, April 1st, our internet provider went down for a few hours and subsequently so did our complimentary wifi and high-speed internet. This was a rare occurrence so I was delighted to read you were caught up on all your work that evening!

AlyxisPaige, thank you again for the feedback and for taking the time to write about your experience.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Vancouver and L’Hermitage Hotel.

Warm Regards,

Glenn W. Eleiter

We stayed at L'Hermitage with family in a 2bdrm Signature Suite. The Suite itself is gorgeous and we were very impressed. The decor is modern without being too extreme and we all couldn't believe the size of the patio we had, it was HUGE! Our only wish was that we stayed in the summer so we could be out enjoying it. The beds were comfortable and it was great having the full kitchen along with 2 seperate bathrooms and bedrooms. Our room was quiet and the view at night was beautiful with all the lights. The location was great for walking downtown, along the fabulous Robson St for shopping and was also an easy walk back from GM Place after we attended the hockey game. We were also there for the fire alarm going off early in the morning, and while inconvenient, was not by any means the hotels fault (restaurant next door and not affiliated) but the staff went above and beyond apologizing making sure that their guests were taken care of and informed and everyone was looked after. The manager (Jean?), he was amazing had a great attitude, depsite the stress of the situation, as did the rest of his staff. I was super impressed! They offered everyone a $50 discount as a goodwill gesture and very much appreciated. The bellboys were prompt and the concierge was very helpful and it was nice they had umbrellas we could borrow for the rainy Vancouver days. Overall definitely a great stay in a beautiful hotel that was made excellent by the fabulous staff!! We would definitely stay here again.
