“Great Service, Mediocre Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2012

All staff we dealt with, from the front desk to the sommelier were excellent.
Unfortunately, that cannot disguise the fact that the food was quite mediocre.

Full disclosure-we were there for Dine Out, and as such, know that perhaps the level of quality can suffer in such an instance, but I feel that the food went beyond such an allowance.
Everything was entirely edible, but both my husband and myself question the fact that for the fish dish, snapper was chosen. I honestly don't consider snapper to be a high-end fish like perhaps char or sablefish, but hey, maybe it was going to be prepared in such a way to knock my socks off! Nope, sad to say it did not. My tomato soup was OK, the best part for me was the dessert-I had the chocolate pudding.

Because the cost is quite high, we would not go to Market again. Had the quality been higher, we'd be more than willing to spend the money.

“Lives up to it's 5 Star Rating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2012

The cuisine, the service (Robbie was polite, fun, and a pleasure to meet) and ambience makes this one of Vancouver's great restaurant choices for lunch. We checked out the dinner menu and will be back to enjoy an e vening at Market. Jean-George's reputation for creating a phenominal food experience is well deserved.

“Christmas Dinner Wow”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2012

Unbelievable! For years we have treated outselves to Christmas dinner at various top end hotel restaurants in the city. At Market we were offered the perfect wine pairing to a sublime four course dinner. Although very casual in appearance, the restaurant does not lack in professional service and cuisine.

The French Toast offered at breakfast in indescribable!

“An Embarrassment to Jean George”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

We are both big Jean George fans, so my husband took me to Market as a surprise treat on our anniversary. It was a surprise alright, but not in the way we had planned.

The ambiance was nice enough, but from the start our server was not helpful, in fact he was bordering on rude.

There was a special menu on that night, with a wine pairing so we ordered that. Big expensive mistake. Two wines only and they could have been servered in a shot glass. The food was well presented but horribly salty - we like salt, but this crazy. We could have complained, but after our dealings with the waiter, we just paid and left.

“If you haven't been...go, if you have then you know!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2012

Was taken here for a late dinner and even at a 9:30pm seating the place was buzzing! Had a lovely booth in a great spot to 'people watch' but really who cares when such amazing food kept arriving at the table. We had a few appetizers before my entree and my friends tasting menu meal arrived and each was explained perfectly by our very attentive infomative server. She also timed my entree to arrive with the 'main' portion of the tasting menu and it all went like clockwork.

If there was anything not to like I would say the music was just a tad too loud for us but otherwise it really was a magical evening.
