“Comfortable garden studio close to vibrant Commercial Drive”

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa MacMello, the studio was bright and clean with an extremely comfortable bed and even a chicken, puppy and cat living in the main house to keep us company! Kathy and Stan were kind and friendly and able to recommend places to go in Commercial Drive, Vancouver, and beyond. We really enjoyed the alternative vibe of Commercial Drive and found lots of cafes and bars on our doorstep. The studio is kitted out with a fridge, and kettle so you can make basic meals but there is not really a need to with so many good restaurants in the area. We were hoping to do a little more self catering so the limited cooking facilities were the only downside of our stay.

My wife and I chose this location for our honeymoon. It was no doubt the right choice. Kathleen was truly helpful and communicated through out the whole process and even while we were there. The stay is clean comfortable, like a small apartment. It's located in a family neighborhood with tons of tress. It's walking distance to tons of authentic places to eat of all cultures, the transportation system, and grocery stores. We loved it and would give it more stars if we could. Definitely would stay there again if the chance presented itself.

“A hidden Gem”

A lovely tree lined Avenue, quiet and peaceful and yet within 20 minutes you are right in the heart of vibrant Vancouver where you can pick up trips to the surrounding areas by land or sea!.You can cycle to Stanley Park within an easy hour .
(Ignore the fact the address is near 'Commercial' - it doesn't really reflect the cottage's location)
The cottage has everything you could ask for, cosy bed, refreshing shower, comfortable furniture to relax on. Local shops have plenty of provisions available if you don't want to use the many local restaurants.
Mine hosts are only too keen to help in any way they can with directions, suggestions and ideas for your stay.
In the event of a return to Vancouver I shall definitely stay there again. . . .

“Very Pleasant Stay”

We certainly enjoyed our 3 night stay. The facility was clean and tastefully furnished. It was also quiet during the night. As a bonus it had a sundeck which we made use of. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We would certainly recommend the Casa MacMello to family and friends as a place to stay.

“Great neighborhood, fantastic place, wonderful hosts”
Reviewed August 6, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

I echo what other travelers have contributed already...perfect spot in a great neighborhood, charming, clean and cute cottage, and excellent hosts. Casa MacMello contributed to our fantastic Vancouver experience. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

“An urban retreat!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa MacMello! It really is an urban retreat right in the heart of the city. The apartment is only 1.5 blocks from the Commercial/Broadway station, and there are tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance. We had no idea that staying off Commercial Drive would be such a convenient location! Both Kathleen and her husband are very accommodating and friendly and will give you plenty of advice for things to do.

Reasons for not giving this 5 stars:
WiFi: the signal in the apartment was extremely weak or non-existent. We tried multiple devices and the only place it worked was up on the main front porch of the house, across the yard. We ended up buying a data plan for Canada because we got so frustrated.
Noise and Light: While the apartment is incredibly cute and comfortable, for a troubled sleeper like me, it was extremely noisy and BRIGHT! The place didn't seem to be well-insulated and we could hear everything, from neighbors next door, to people having a casual conversation in the alley, to all of the traffic off Broadway. While there aren't any traditional windows in the apartment, there is a ton of light and no shades! The back wall is glass blocks, and with the sun rising at 5:30am in the summer, the place was aglow with light by 5am. Even my husband who is a sound sleeper had problems. We ended up buying foil and taping it over the blocks by the bed.

This really is a special place and we would stay here again!
