Elegant room badly let down by noise intrusion from 'party people' in the street below between midnight and 4am. Double window glazing compromised by make-shift air conditioner installation through window opening which let the noise in.
Common area, breakfast room and reception (not very professional) were reminiscent of back packer accommodation. We got much better accommodation in Robson St, Vancouver for less price.

Room Tip: Cannot recommend at the price we paid

Thanks for your view Bruce. I admit that it's been really expensive to stay in Vancouver this summer. I feel we consistently offer one of the best values in town. I'm terribly sorry you didn't see it that way.

This is a beautiful hotel with very friendly staff in an excellent location. The downside is that we realize that you don't have your own bathroom. We shared with about 8 other rooms. Had we realized we would be sharing toilets and bathrooms we wouldn't have stayed there.
The breakfast room is also very small

My apologies go out to you Dirk. Occasionally some people are completely unaware what the concept of "shared bathrooms" actually means. So even though the term is embodied in the room type they book, it doesn't register. I'm sorry for that. We do everything we can to describe the room in-depth on all distribution channels but unfortunately, situations like yours are not entirely uncommon. Again, my regrets for the confusion.

The rooms are small, but highly elegant. The wooden floor and the high ceilings offer an antiquated atmosphere, as does the exquisite wooden furniture in the rooms. Even the massive pipe that ran across our ceiling seemed to blend in this old-fashioned setting.

The staff is a different story. The hotel is undermanned, so it is hardly a surprise that the hackneyed receptionist-concierge-bell boy-waitress was unable to include courtesy in her one-man show. The service was impatient and impertinent, casting a shadow on our stay.

Beware the wrath of the Australian receptionist, mate!

Well Albert, I'm delighted you loved our decor, I am however, a little surprised by your comment about one of my staff members. She just happens to be our guest's most popular desk agent. I'm really sorry you didn't see her best side, I'm giving her a mulligan, as anything less than cheery disposition is completely out of character for her.

We arrived late with our giant bags to find there was no lift. Not great when you've been travelling for 24hrs. On arrival the front desk was good and did help us with our bags. The room was small and unfortunately the window didn't close correctly so we had a fair bit of street noise. The breakfast (continental) was ok - croissants, bread and tinned fruit. Overall the experience was OK. We wouldn't stay there again however.

We needed a place for one night in downtown Vancouver before our cruise. This fit the bill - looking for something under $200, walkable, and close to cruise port. Good on all counts. Very clean. A/C unit kept room cool and though a little loud, probably blocked street noise. Nice bathroom. Friendly desk people (we met two). Easy to walk to Gastown for meals and for tour bus. Continental breakfast was lacking - would have been enhanced even by hard boiled eggs or a waffle maker. Flight of steps to the front door might be a problem for some, as well as lack of elevator. Overall a really nice place for what we wanted. Would stay again.

It sure sounds like we fit the bill Janie and it's good to read that you enjoyed your stay. Go Red Sox! (well, let's meet the Jays in pennant race). Please come again.
