My family was supposed to stay in Manor Guest House for a night. I was actually pretty excited when we arrived at the house because the garden was quite nice and the house looked pretty from the outside. When we got to the room, I thought the room was small but okay in general. It smelled little odd, but it was not that big of a deal. But I was apparently mistaken. It was not a-okay.

One of my family members woke up in the middle of the night (around 1am), feeling extremely itchy. So I decided to turn the lights on to see if there were any bugs in the room (I was expecting mosquitoes tbh). There were bunch of bed bugs crawling in our beds!!! SO MANY. Whenever we flipped the sheets, there were just more of them. It was absolutely disgusting.

I quickly got hold of the owners/hosts, and told them about the situation. So they came up to our room to check. After seeing those bed bugs, they apologized and offered to change the sheets and give us the refund. According to the owners, there was no other room available. We did accept the refund, but knowing that changing the sheets won't help much - it's not addressing the root cause - my family decided to leave the establishment. Before we left though, we asked them to get a medicine for the family member who was bitten everywhere, and the owner drove to shoppers to get an anti itch cream.

I wish to endorse Mike and Karen’s review. This is a great place to stay. It is not the Hilton but then you’re not paying Hilton prices. The presence of the cats has been greatly exaggerated and the place is not smelly. The bedrooms are small but experienced travellers can get around this. (We stored our biggest case in the bathroom). We tended to sleep in as we were doing a lot of walking taking advantage of the marvellous public transport system so breakfast had largely disappeared by the time we came to eat. It wasn’t great but we lashed out on our last morning and booked into Yolk on Broadway. As an 80 year old I found the climb up from the station hard going but younger fitter people should manage it easily. My 49 year old daughter had no trouble. Interaction with other guests was very interesting because you meet other experienced travellers who have more to speak about, this while eating in a beautiful garden. Linda, the manager is never hard to find. She’s nearly always in the garden. Free access to the washing machine and drier is a bonus.

The guest house is run by Chinese in an old building that desperately needs maintenance. The reception area smells like cat pee, hold your breath when you walk in. Breakfast is served in same smelly area. Toast, croissant, muffin, peanut butter and jelly, boiled egg, disposable plates and cups, that is about it. Do not book the loft, it is very hot, no ac, no curtains (you'll wake up at sunrise), thin matrasses on the floor, steep ladder. They should not be selling this at any price. The rooms are okay (some have very noisy ac, some have fans, gets very hot in the summer), bed linen is clean, although they spray the rooms to make it smell better, which I find very strange... The location is great near Sky train station Broadway/City hall, that is the only plus in my view.

My first impression was "what have I done" as the whole reception area stank of cat piss.

Our room was dark and stuffy but we shared a small sitting area, kitchen and bathroom with one other room, so we could sit there rather than the room. The bed and pillows were very good and comfortable.

Breakfast was included and was adequate. There is no dining area so guests must take their food either back to the room or to various garden areas. We chose the garden and that gave us a chance to meet other travellers.

The best thing was the location. Just a short walk to a train station and local shopping. It made our exploration of Vancouver very easy.

By the end of our 3 days we were settled in and comfortable. The staff were helpful and we'd grown very happy with our choice of accomodation.

My advice: stay for the location and just go with the rest of it, and you'll probably be happy.

Arrived for one night in June to a chaotic reception in a very crowded front hall with parties from all over the world arguing about prices and rooms. Room located next door to an active construction site where 4 new buildings are being built resulting in very early morning noise!.

Our room was also located next to what seemed to be a common shower unit for other rooms that was in use by a large party from about 430 am onwards for over an hour. Walls are very very thin....

The breakfast is a jar each of peanut butter and jam with a dirty spoon stuck in each next to a bowl of what looked like Save-On grocery bagels. After we finished we noted a bowl of cold hard boiled eggs in shells were placed on the table.

To eat you must go to your room as there is no space other than the few tables outside . Fortunately it did not rain that day. Exterior door to house stayed open at night ?

The only benefit this place offers is location.
