Description: Our little restaurant is located in the heart of Commercial Drive. A casual and inviting space, run by a close-knit team and a tiny-but-mighty kitchen. Best known for our artful plating, creative use of local ingredients, delicious fresh sushi, and modern twists on Japanese classics. The real magic can be found in award winning Chef Kishimoto's unique seasonal offerings. Fresh, quality ingredients come to us from local farms, foragers and producers, such as wild greens and mushrooms, kelp, organic vegetables, free range eggs, natural poultry and meat, sustainable seafood, and more. We feature a small selection of BC wines and craft sake, alongside imported sake. Premium rice, wagyu and fresh seafood are hand selected and flown to us from Japan throughout the week. Reservations recommended, walk-in welcome.

Kishimoto is small and can accommodate may be 30 guests. Tables are set close together without privacy. Getting in and out of your seat is a challenge. Nonetheless service is good and efficient.

Now comes the main part - food. All in one word - EXCELLENT, in taste and in presentation. I counted 7 people - including the owner himself, working behind the sushi counter to service a maximum of 30 guests. Dishes are made to order fresh, with professional presentation. Rice used to prepare the sushi is soft and good quality, not hard and dry prepared some time ago and has been refrigerated. For a food meal, prepare to spend $40 to $50 per person.

Definitely deserves a 5-star rating if sitting arrangement is improved. I struggled to provide a 4-star rating mainly at this cost, I expect more comfortable environment. Don't get me wrong, food is FANTASTIC !!

Three of us had a wonderful meal a couple of days ago. Aside from the kind-of-sucky "reservation/line-up" system - can't put your name down to hold a table if its free, but when you get back 10 min later, you now have to wait 45 min - we had a wonderful experience. The sushi is just so fresh and beautifully prepared, its to die for! We particularly liked the Ahi & Avocado (though they substitutes albacore for us, since they were out of ahi - which was arguably even better!!), the Dragon roll, the BC roll and the unagi roll. The service was very friendly, professional and fast. A great spot, and definitely earned its place toward the top of Vancouver's pretty competitive sushi scene!

Dinner with family is always exciting in this remarkable restaurant. The food comes from top chefs with imagination and innovation using the freshest ingredients to give the best tasting experience. Presentation is key and they have that in bucket loads. Every visit to Vancouver and this place is a must. Shame about the queues and shame you can't book a table but some things are worth waiting for!

Excellant sushi. Everything is fresh and fullbof flavour. Great service. Beware the place is super busy so you may have to wait for a table. Not their fault just a heads up.

Some friends of mine wanted to get together for dinner before going out to the theatre and as I was visiting from out of town wanted me to choose the restaurant. I said, anyplace on the drive that is not Italian (I live in Italy and really miss Vancouver's multicultural cuisine options) so they chose Kishimoto and I am sure glad they did.
Now I lived in Japan for two and a half years and have eaten some excellent Japanese food but I have not eaten anything quite like the amazing food we had at Kishimoto last night. Whoever thought up their menu are not only bold, highly skilled chefs, but they have a lot of imagination, an extremely high level of visual esthetics with a good dose of whimsy. Everything that comes to the table is a delight to the eye and is as delicious.
The sushi, especially the oshi-zushi (pressed sushi) is out of this world, and the dragon roll with its avocado and crispy bits of grilled eel is amazing. The salmon hotpot with its crispy rice and raw egg was crazy delicious, and the pieces of sushi that I had with fish roe and raw quail egg were as mouthwateringly yummy as it was beautiful to eat. We went on a Friday so it was crowded and we had a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. And for what we ate, the price was very reasonable. I can't wait to go next time to try some of their other offerings.
