The market is a must visit each and every trip we make to Vancouver. I love it there. The flowers, the atmosphere, the view, the great coffee from several different places, the restaurants, the flowers, the entertainment, the flowers, the fresh produce and locally made soups, stocks and pies, the little passenger ferry system, the hustle and bustle, the flowers, the people watching. Did I mention the flowers? There are also many shops with wonderful local art in varous forms - paint, glass, wood, straw brooms (really!).
My only complaint is that now we visit the market as tourists and staying in hotels we can't take advantage of the wonderful purchases there - so we wander and oogle; this is maybe the biggest thing we miss about not living on the coast anymore. But I'll always buy flowers for the hotel room and then to bring them home!
I do have another complaint/caution - watch out for the seagulls if you are eating outside on the wharf! They are very agressive and a bit scary.
Don't miss it - it's better than Pike's Market in Seattle because it's more 'market' and less touristy trap stuff and closer to the water. (although there are no flying fish!)
