It claimed to be a Malay restaurant. You have been fooled. It has nothing to offer that is close to Malay food. Maybe it can fool the Canadians but not me. The roti canai is like plastic. The curry could have just taken out from a can. The curry is sweet and suits Western diners and little real spice to offer. The cooking is more like Chinese fusion with some Malay setting..that is all it offers.

Ok so you want to have authentic Malaysian cuisine or at least close to authentic. This is not the place and let me share with you, why not !. My wife n I went for lunch - first visit. Ambience is not quite Malaysian but why should it not be . Anyways, prior to this first visit , we had heard that the chef was previously from Banana Leaf restaurant. So we figured - it should be decent quality or hopefully better. The menu had the usual items that you will find in Banana Leaf. Prices almost the same. Service was ok. Ambience - dark, high ceiling, huge space , not warm or friendly. So we ordered Hokkien Fried Mee and Nasi Goreng. Simple dishes but these are dishes that will grade your quality and authenticity.
Hokkien Mee - serving size certainly not generous. The noodles ( yellow n white noodles ) were not sufficiently cooked. In other words, like fresh raw noodles ( particularly the yellow noodles ). Ingredients like the egg was probably one only - had cuttlefish n prawns - like 3 units each and that's it. No flavour . I think the chef or whoever fried this noodle was in a big Hurry.
Nasi Goreng - authentic nasi Goreng is never fried with tomatoe sauce. Again serving size - poor, ingredients - I really can't recall what was in it - probably same cuttlefish n prawns. Flavour - taste like semi cooked fried rice with tomatoe sauce and dark soya sauce. Very very bad quality.
By the way, both dishes were served to us in less than 10 minutes after we ordered.
Generally, if both dishes were to be prepared (freshly cooked) I believe it does take longer. So perhaps, both were pre- cooked in a bucket n micro waved before serving.
Both dishes were not served hot .
So we are going back to Banana Leaf at Denman which has really good authentic Malaysian cuisine and not this pretentious one. Sorry - just being honest .

This was our first visit to this for us hitherto unknown Malaysian restaurant. Large variety of tasty food, warm ambience, soft background music, pleasant service, good clean washrooms - we were all very pleased and will definitely return.

We are often leary of trying Malaysian food in North America as it often does not live up to our memories of eating at the hawker centers in Singapore. Kaya did not disappoint us! We had laksa and char kway teow and thought both dishes could have come straight from Singapore. We would totally recommend this place.
