Not far from the centre of the city on the number 2 or 4 bus, or a $15 taxi. You can walk along the coast to Granville Island in 20-30 mins. Great rooms and a super homemade breakfast by Karen. Karen is very helpful and a mine of information both local and further afield.

We stayed at Corkscrew Inn 3 nights at the end of May 2018 visiting family close by. Loved the breakfasts - we're not picky eaters. It is an older home with plenty of stairs but the facilities are first rate and it's a quiet area. The other lodgers were considerate about noise and so were we. Our family 'locals' stopped by and we all agreed the location and value made it a great place for other family to stay for their future visits in Vancouver. No complaints.
I will click some of the generic 'buttons' about the "hotel" but Corkscrew is a B&B - not a hotel.

Room tip: Just look at the pictures and descriptions on the web. They are accurate

We just had a really nice time at the Corkscrew Inn and in Vancouver. Karen was very hospitable and we met some interesting people who were staying at the same time. I can see from a few of the reviews that it may not be for everyone, but it has character, charm and is in a lovely neighbourhood so we're already planning our return....

We stayed at the The Corkscrew Inn for 3 nights. The house has been nicely renovated and has lovely stained glass.
We were met by the owner who was friendly and enthusiastic about his corkscrews and museum.
Our room was clean and had a nice balcony.
The manager was not there when we arrived as she was on vacation.
When she returned she was not happy that her substitute, the owner, had left her so much mess to clear up and hadn’t informed us of the rules properly.
The cooked breakfast was offered between 8 & 9 and if you had an early morning sightseeing tour you missed out. The only thing offered, if you could not make the timing for breakfast was instant oatmeal, yogurt or stale cereal. The cereal in the canisters has turned to powder and I didn’t recognize what the cereal was supposed to be. There was nothing to make toast with or any rolls or muffins. When we told her that we were leaving early to sightsee, the manager said that you will miss breakfast.
When we did stay for breakfast, we were given scrambled eggs with salmon in and an unripe piece of melon.
I could have done without the salmon but was never asked how I wanted my eggs. There was only walnut bread for toast and peanut butter and nondescript jelly.
There was tea and instant coffee on the sideboard to have anytime.
The manager scolded us for chatting after 10pm on the front porch. We didn’t know that there was a quiet policy after 10pm. She does live in the room below so was not happy that she heard us. Being on vacation we were not thinking about the time.
If you wish to watch TV, you had to set it up yourself as it was kept unplugged in the wardrobe as well as the alarm clock. We could only find one channel when we did set it up.
There is a soft shoe rule in the house and slippers are provided. The owner said that my shoes were fine and I didn’t need to change.
The day we were leaving, we had to get to the airport early and proceeded to bring the suitcases and bags from the room . This required a few trips up and down the squeaky stairs and floorboards. Once again I was scolded by the manager who said she would apologize to the other guests on my behalf for the disturbance. I remarked that we would be out of her hair and she would have no more disturbance from us. She repeated her remark about her apologizing on my behalf.
I did nothing wrong! I do not need anyone to apologize on my behalf!
The management seems to want the guests to work around their lifestyle and not be disturbed by the guests. A post it note or a scolding were daily occurrences.
I did read the good and bad reviews that other people had written about this place. The management seem to make excuses and blame the customer if they do not have a favorable review. That is a shame as it could really benefit how the place is run. I think the manager is not really into the job and maybe needs to look for something that makes her happy.
This bed and breakfast has too many unreasonable rules not found at most B&B’s. Would not recommend, as this experience ruined our stay in Vancouver.

The owner, as acting innkeeper when your group checked in, acknowledges that he was remiss in not giving your group a thorough enough check-in orientation (which would have included the television/cable box set-up), and not clearly communicating the policies that usually work so well to ensure the contentment of all our guests.

We are sorry that the mixed messages led to your disgruntlement, and we will do better.

Mixed messages go both ways. For the morning of your early departure, our manager prepared our continental breakfast option, without bread for toast, having been assured by someone in your group that cereal, fruit and yoghurt were sufficient. (Cereal jars are clearly labelled and replenished frequently, sometimes daily in the high season.)

The policies you characterize as “unreasonable rules” are in place for the comfort and security of our guests. As our website mentions, our heritage house is not noise proof. Our solution, at the suggestion of several guests, is to request that street shoes not be worn in the house. That’s why we provide souvenir slippers.

Peace and quiet at night are the ideal not only for those staying with us, but also for our neighbours who may be bothered when conversations are happening on our front or back veranda late on warm summer evenings. As you wrote, you were on vacation and not thinking about the time. Understandable! But we have to be conscious of sound levels, so requests to lower voices are sometimes necessary.

Post-It notes are not common practice. Our kitchen door is clearly marked “Private” because health regulations prohibit outsiders having access to our breakfast groceries and food preparation utensils. Because the kitchen was interfered with during your party’s stay, our manager posted a note on the door to reinforce that the kitchen is off limits to guests

This is a lovely inn. Beautifully renovated with stained glass windows made by the owner's wife. The owner checked us in and was very friendly. He said we could wear our soft soled shoes. The next day the innkeeper, Karen, returned. She was unfriendly at best. Never greeted us or said good morning at breakfast. The breakfast was mediocre. Served scrambled eggs and one slice of melon. I can't understand the comments about fabulous breakfasts. We were scolded in an unprofessional manner by Karen for talking too loudly on the front porch (we did not know about the 10pm quiet rule) and for wearing our soft shoes in spite of what the owner said. I have stayed at many B&B's and never felt so unwelcome. The innkeeper should not be in a public service industry. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Room tip: The upstairs rooms on the back side have a small balcony which is nice.

Thank you for your very complimentary description of our Inn, and your helpful room tip.
Our policies concerning street shoes and noise at night evolved over time as guests complained about being disturbed by other guests. Following your party’s stay and reviews, we will work harder on enhancing communication in an effort to ensure the comfort and serenity of everyone involved.
