This is my review for Hotel BLU Vancouver British Columbia. This was a 1 night prescribe stay, as part of my cruise vacation. I am going on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth for a 10 day Alaskan cruise. My room was 329, and it was conveniently located right by the elevator (to the right). This hotel, like many now, uses key cards. One has to use the card for access to any doors within the property.
My room was well appointed and very nice. My porter make a joke about the fact the room I will be staying onboard the ship will be much smaller; he wasn't lying either as my room will be much smaller than this hotel room. Though I do wish it was warmer, so I could use the balcony, which is quite large with a fair size table and two chairs. The room has a fairly large (though not very large) "honeymoon" shower, which is a shower that has a glass wall allowing other room occupants to see you shower. Though it also has a shade that can be drawn down for privacy. The bathroom is big enough and has adequate drawer space.
The shower is a typical European type, where the heating control are estate from the water flow knob. It has a rainfall showerhead on the ceiling and the hand held rod connected to the shower fixture. I wish the handheld could be controlled separately from the rainfall haed. as it stands turning the water flow on for the rainfall also controls the water flow for the handheld. So you can't just use the handheld by itself. One complaint I have read is the lack of hand rails and a slip mat for the shower. The shower floor gets slippery, and I wish I had actually brought my square shower mat from home. I shall make this a normal practice for when I travel.
The room also came with a 55" TV, Nespresso espresso maker, a Cuisinart automatic hot water pot. They included 2 bathrobes, and amenities. It also had a very big balcony, that I was sad not to use because it rained during my stay. Though the rain did not keep me inside.
I wanted to check out Vancouver's night life. The area is fairly suited to business and leisure. There were plenty of shopping, a library, a market, cafe's etc. I was even near a sports arena and galleries. The location is very nice and surrounded by a all kinds of big and small shops. There are many places to go , but as I came here while it raining a bit I only asked around the blocks and did some shopping (mostly dining and coffee). Most places closed at 7pm which was a bummer. Canadians are very friendly, and I did notice that were very few Black people. I saw about two or three today (men) and maybe about 2 yesterday, male and female. In Vancouver there are mostly Asian and Indians.
The hotel are very professional and accommodating. The Azure Cafe is where I had breakfast, Cunard gave me a free breakfast credit and 10% discount off on some local shops, I used it at Black Rice, Japanese restaurant - which was very nice. Azure staff were nice, I ordered the Manhattan breakfast, which came with a Mango Chia Pudding and any drinks. I did not use the pool (again, when I stay at hotels I forget about the pools and spas). But it was nice, as was the Business Center - although it only had two PCs (both with Windows 7).
My only issue is the Roxy clock thing, whatever it i. It seems to always shut off. I told it (Angie, as it's called) to wake me up at 6am - it did not because it shutdown and when it restarted it forgot my previous request. Hotel BLU has a pool, louch chair deck, dry sauna, and a fitness center. I didn't know about the pool until the next day; if I did - I would have took a dip in the pool.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel BLU here in Vancouver. It looks nice inside and out and should I find myself back here, I'll be staying this hotel again.
