We stayed at the Loden for one night as a mini “babymoon”. Our plan was to stay in, order room service from Tableau and watch a movie. The room was beautiful (we stayed in a Park Vista corner room) and the bathtub was heavenly, especially as a very pregnant person. The food we ordered from Tableau was delicious and arrived within 30 minutes even though it was peak dinner hour. We really enjoyed 90% of our stay. Unfortunately, the TV’s at the Loden are from approximately 2009 and only have basic cable (Shaw Business up to channel 59). It hadn’t even occurred to us to ask in advance about accessing On Demand movies and/or Netflix because even the most basic hotels offer this as a standard amenity in 2019, let alone a 5 star boutique hotel in Downtown Vancouver. We phoned down to the front desk to inquire about our options and were told that they have a limited number of Apple TV consoles available and that they’d have to see if any were available for us to use. We got a phone call back a few minutes later informing us that there were none and were basically told “too bad, enjoy your stay”. My husband phoned back a few minutes later and we had to literally threaten to check out and demand a refund in order for the person at the front desk to consider that maybe he should try to see if there could be one made available to us. Keep in mind that this is a $400/night hotel during the off peak season and we were expected to just watch cable tv in our rooms because they haven’t bothered to upgrade their TV’s. Maybe this sounds like a first world problem, but people have expectations regarding amenities when you stay at hotels of a certain caliber. They did end up finding an available Apple TV box for us and installed it promptly, but it kind of started things off on a sour note for us since we had to escalate to threatening to check out before we got some decent service regarding this issue.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to others because overall the experience was very good, but they should make the investment to upgrade their TV’s, especially since it’s not a particularly large hotel so it wouldn’t be a huge upfront cost but would provide a better experience for guests.
