Large and clean sites. Doubles and singles with lots of green belt between. Pit toilets, water tap, garbage and recycle recepticals.
This is a good way to "leave it all behind". 34 km before Port Renfrew on the beautiful Westcoast. Firewood for purchase, friendly staff, well kept campground with park host.
1km walk to the beach, lots of stairs though with an incline, and pit toilet at the beach.
Pristine Westcoast beach, sand and surf. Worth the walk, spend several hours exploring.

We took the 90 minute drive out to China Beach. Did the hike to Mystic Beach first (east side of the day use area parking lot). What a gorgeous approximately 40 minute hike through the forest and over a suspension bridge. Quite a few stairs near the end. Very nice sandy beach with a small waterfall. China Beach was a 10 minute walk from the parking area. Another nice sandy beach. Very few people at either beach. A nice getaway from the city.

China Beach is a beautiful, sandy beach that seems to stretch on for miles! The surf pounds on the way to the beach in typical West Coast fashion. The trail down to the beach is a wide, fairly well maintained one with some steps closer to the beach. It is about a 15 - 20 minute walk. It is lovely to bring a picnic lunch and to sit on a piece of driftwood, listen to the surf and enjoy a delightful repast. There is good parking and the beach is relatively uncrowded. About 2 hours north of Victoria. Be sure to stop for coffee at the Shirley Diner on the way. Very friendly and the baked goods are to die for!

About 90 minutes West of Victoria, there is not much on the South coast of Vancouver Island other than lots of trees, windy road and wonderful country. Just past the village
of Jordan River (one cafe and not much else) are the turn-offs for China Beach. Unlike most of this rugged coastline, this is a real beach with real sand. It's long, mostly empty
and absolutely beautiful. Please note, however, that this is the NW Pacific Coast and liable to inclement weather, so choose your day.

This is a bit of a drive but totally worth it! After you walk about 15 minutes down a well looked after path, you walk out into paradise. You feel miles away from the rest of the world (cause you kind of are). It is so relaxing for Mom and fun for the kids. Great photo op!
