Book stores, toys and games, hobby shops, bakeries to make your mouth water, coffee shops, some of the best, antique stores, baby and shoe stores, banks, everything in but a few blocks and all accessible on foot. I love this street. There is always something new to see. And the folks are friendly as well. Worth the walk.

We always spend some time walking and shopping on FortStreet. The buildings have lots of character. This area is in the heart of downtown Victoria

Take an hour or 2 to stroll up Fort Street and discover a wide variety of shops. Many are small restaurants, Asian cafes, etc. also lots of antique stores and at least 1 used book store Russell's. We are particularly fond of the Chocolaterie Victoria which makes wonderful fresh treats and also great chocolate drinks. Don't miss a fun mural of Victoria's most famous daughter Emily Carr and her monkey Woo on the side of Island Blue Print and Art Supplies. If you keep walking east you will reach the turn off to both Craigdarroch Castle and the Greater Victoria Art Gallery. Both well worth visiting.

After having breakfast at Willie’s Bakery & Café we decided to walk down Fort Street to get to Craigdarroch Castle. Yes, it IS a long walk. There are many interesting shops on Fort Street, antique shops, bakeries, etc. There are also several interesting old homes as you pass Cook Street on the way to Craigdarroch.

If you keep walking past Craigdarroch, Fort Street intersects with Oak Bay Avenue where you will encounter a wonderful shopping & dining area on Oak Bay Avenue, all the way toward Beach Drive. There are specialty shops, restaurants, bistros, pubs, chocolate shops as well as a cool bakery called Ottavio Italian Bakery! The bakery is just one block away from The Penny Farthing Olde English Pub. Oak Bay Avenue is a really nice area which goes toward (it doesn’t directly intersect with) Beach Drive, which is right on the coast.

Whether you walk or drive (and stop periodically) it is wonderful to on Fort Street to Oak Bay Avenue. Well worth the experience.

This was a pleasant street to walk with interesting shops and lots of foot traffic.

Top tip- look out for the 1 day art festival in July (19th in 2014) where a street at right angles to Fort Street closes for about a km and has artists out with stalls and doing art too. There was a great mix of artists to watch, original art and cards etc for sale and things to join in with, particularly for children.
