“Bring your own shampoo and conditioner!!”
Reviewed 24 January 2012

Nice location, nice hotel, but...

They use bulk soap and shampoo dispensers in the showers - no little bottles available. That would be ok IF they were filled. I was in the shower and found out only after I was wet that the dispensers for both the shampoo and conditioner were empty !@!@!!!! Not many options when you're already in the shower!!

When I mentioned this to the front desk clerk, I was told that they used that system for 'enviromental reasons'. I asked why then did they not check them and refill as necessary BEFORE a new guest checks in. She replied that they needed to be completely empty before they could be changed. So if you happen to be the poor sap who is standing wet in the shower with no shampoo to use, I guess you are out of luck.

They knocked 10% off the bill, but that didn't get my hair washed!!

In spite of my complaint, no one from the hotel followed up with me. They probably will now that I've posted this.

Thank you for sharing your comments. I am so very sorry that some of the (bulk) bathroom amenities were not completely stocked for your arrival. This was a regrettable oversight on the part of my team, and for that I apologize. The dispensers are indeed a part of our hotel's green program, and are found in many hotels these days. They should have been checked prior to your arrival. I can assure you and others that we will review our system with our housekeepers so that we can ensure the best shower experience possible. Our front desk attendant who received your comments at check-out felt that she had addressed all your concerns. Again, I am very sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this visit but I truly hope that you will give us another chance.

The room was very nice - roomy and comfortable. The view was good this time of year because all the trees were bare. The location is great - so close to the ferry. But - the wondrous thing about our stay was the staff, and their accommodation to our schedule. We arrived on the early ferry - at the hotel by shortly after 10 A.M., and they had our room ready!!!! Each suggestion they gave us for food or route turned out to be right on. The next day, our ferry was not to leave until 4 P.M. Check out is noon - but they extended our check out time, and then did everything possible to make us comfortable in the lobby (comfy seating, checking to see if they could improve our stay in any way, drinks etc.) when we returned from another foray around the city and still had an hour before boarding. Kudos to the staff. They really made a difference!

Room Tip: Harbour side rooms, third floor and up

My wife and I have just returned from a 3-day mini vacation in Victoria, BC. Whenever we visit there, we always stay at this beautiful hotel, just a block from the Inner Harbour. Being a block away means no traffic noise; and yet, you're close enough to the action that it's all within walking distance. The hotel's breakfast area on the main floor has been completely renovated since we were last there, making the complimentary "Continental Breakfast" even more of a benefit. We've earned enough points through Best Western's "Gold Crown Club" that we're now enjoying the benefits (i.e. one or more free nights).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a harbour view

Our family of 4 stayed here in the summer or 2010. We found the hotel "last minute" and paid premium because of location -- which is fantastic -- within walking distance to most downtown Vic attractions (harbor, museum, park, shopping, Empress, Parliament etc.)
The room was clean and the kitchenette had some nice amenities, microwave, coffee, bottle opener, and fridge. We stayed on the harbor side and from our small balcony had a nice view of the pool.
Breakfast was OK, nothing fancy. The Dining Room is SMALL and when the hotel is busy, this area gets crowded. We have little ones in highchairs and was difficult to maneuver between tables. The pool and pool area are small but nicely kept.
Don't know what the PLUS is for, parking maybe? Be careful if you have an SUV, the parking garage ceilings are low and it is tight getting in and out.
Lobby and corridors could use a facelift and more light. Probably will not stay here on our next visit to Vic...overall we don’t think it was a good value for the money.
PROs- location, parking, pool
CONs- price, breakfast, decor

Room Tip: If you want quieter room in Summer choose one away from the pool.

Thank you for staying with us when you were visiting Victoria last summer. We are glad to hear our harbour location worked so well for your family's holiday outings, and that you enjoyed our outdoor heated pool.

With the breakfast included, this is a very popular value-added amenity especially with families. The buffet service hours are expanded in the summer to allow our guests plenty of time to enjoy their breakfast. We are always open to suggestions for how we can improve this area in particular as it is most important to us that every guest has a wonderful experience.

We appreciate your taking the time to share your comments.

By way of a tradition each year now we go to Victoria in early December and stay at the Best Western in a very nice room over looking the inner harbour. The rooms have recently be renovated, the beds are very comfortable and having a small kitchen with a fridge, tea and coffee is a big plus. Breakfast is included in the price and very good value with a nice selection of food catering to different diets.

Room Tip: If possible select a room with a balcony on the north side of the hotel as there is an excellent vie...

Thank you so much for making an annual tradition of coming to Victoria and staying at our Inner Harbour hotel. There is so much to see and do around the harbour with all the holiday festivities! Thank you for noticing the upgrades we are making to the bathrooms, which are still underway but we should have them completed shortly. We can't wait to welcome you back again and show you the finished product!!

Staff was friendly. Room was on the second floor facing Quebec Street. Nothing to see from the balcony. Street was loud. Great little kitchenette. 4 burner stove and 24" oven. Bar fridge a little small when you had full cooking facilities.Parking was included so a bonus. The hotel piped 3 dvd movies on 3 channels in addition to your cable choice. therefore no need for a movie bill on your bill. Pool was closed so didn't even see it. Breakfast included was continental with boiled eggs and waffles included with regular pastries, toast bagels and cereal.
2 queen beds. Room for 4.
Nothing stood out about this place. 2 blocks from Capital buildings, 3 from the harbour and 6 or seven to eat.
Clean OK
Building is in good shape OK

Room Tip: nothing to see out front. Street is noisy.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Victoria. We are glad to hear you were able to make use of the kitchenette, enjoyed the complimentary movie channels, free parking and of course the breakfast buffet included with our room rates.

We are sorry to hear that you found the street noisy, which is mostly residential & tourist traffic being set one block off the harbour. In fact, we even have the horse drawn carriages wander by the hotel which is typical of the pace - relaxed. The front side (south facing) of the hotel fronts onto Quebec Street and there is a low-rise condo building across from us.

Our pool is outdoors and closed during the winter months, and will re-open in May 2012. However, we do have an indoor whirlpool, sauna and steam room open year-round.

Thank you again for all your comments and for staying with us.

This hotel made for a great choice in accommodations while enjoying Victoria in December. We stayed on the 6th floor with a view of the harbor and Empress Hotel. The room appeared to have been updated fairly recently, and included a small kitchenette. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the view great, and the location even better, for a price that was outstanding. The employees were friendly and helpful. The bed were very comfortable, though the bed spread seemed a little odd (satin-like); would have preferred more of a duvet/comforter style. We would certainly go back for another stay.

We are thrilled to hear that you were so pleased with your choice of hotel and sincerely appreciate that decided to try us out! Thanks for all your lovely compliments, which I will certainly share proudly with our entire team. To your comment about the duvet covers we have in our rooms, they are made of polyester and the pattern with an elegant sheen was chosen to coordinate with our rooms. Even though the duvets are only 3 years old, we will be updating these again later in 2012 for a new look. We are also pleased that you noticed we have been making updates to the rooms, and will be continuing with the bathroom remodelling after the holidays. Thanks again so much for staying with us, and we truly look forward to seeing you again when your travels bring you back to Victoria.
