We considered staying at the Fairmont Empress Hotel, but decided, on the basis of previous favourable reviews, on the Magnolia. We were not disappointed. We occupied a signature corner room, which had a fantastic view, across the front of the Empress, of the Provincial Building, whose outline was picked out in thousands of lights every night. We arrived by float plane, and found it an easy walk to the hotel. No need for a taxi. We were cold and tired, but a glass of hot apple cider, constantly available in the reception, soon revived us. Check-in and check-out was a quietly efficient affair. The room was beautiful, with its three floor-to-ceiling windows. There was a hot and cold water basin in the room, near the refreshment facilities and fridge, in addition to the bathroom. Large and extremely comfortable bed - better, in my opinion, than the ones promoted by the Sheraton. We encountered no noise while there. The business centre is in effect a couple of computers in a compartment leading to the fitness room, but they were perfectly adequate. Continental Breakfast was complimentary, and consisted of a tempting array of fresh fruit, cheese, ham, muffins, rolls, croissants, eggs, etc. If asked to say something negative about the hotel, I would have extreme difficulty. I wish the hair conditioner was not supplied in those thin tubes from which it is almost impossible to extract the contents while in the shower - unless you have a Herculean grip. But this is the tiniest of quibbles. We were very sorry to leave the Magnolia, and would definitely return if we find ourselves in Victoria.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor if you can.

I had the pleasure of spending a week at this hotel while in Victoria for business, and I couldn't have had a nicer stay. The location was perfect for walking down to the harbour or downtown for shopping and restaurants, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. I appreciated the staff remembering me and they went above and beyond in helping me to track down a shipment that had gone missing.

There is a small gym on site which is good if you're just wanting to hit the treadmill (there is only one) in the morning but the hotel also has complimentary passes to the YMCA up the road which was amazing to utilize. The complimentary breakfast goes above and beyond what you would expect, and on weekends there is great live entertainment. Evening hot chocolate, tea and coffee and turndown service make this a wonderful hotel!

We chose this hotel, got a great rate for our stay there in late October, little did we know how close it was to the marina area, the Fairmont (great for a drink in front of their humongous fireplace), that we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in downtown Victoria. The hotel is small, elegant, staff was VERY friendly and helpful, bar was cozy and reasonable with good wine choices and a nice breakfast included next day; our room was HUGE! The bed was so comfy we didn't want to leave, but had to check out in order to go see the Buchart Gardens which we had heard were a must (yes, they were!) Would definitely stay at the Magnolia again; they steered us to the right places, couldn't seem to do enough to help, yet you felt like you were in a very European elegant setting. Loved it!!!!

This is a great little boutique hotel without being snobby and over priced. I was there before Christmas and the scent of the hot apple cider being served (FREE) in the lobby was the nicest touch. The location was perfect in downtown Victoria.

My wife and I stayed at the Magnolia Hotel in August of 2011 for one night. The hotel is conveniently located to most of the downtown shopping and restaurant areas in Victoria and is across the bay from the ferry terminal for the Clipper to Seattle.

There is a drop off zone in front of the hotel and a public parking garage across the street. It is in a busy downtown location so there is not a pull off car entrance as such.

Check-in went very fast and smoothly. The staff were very helpful. We were given a very elegant and spacious corner room on an upper floor overlooking the street corner below and with a partial view of the harbour area. There is complimentary tea, coffee and citrus water available in the lobby at check-in. Our room had a very comfortable king bed, two or three comfy large arm chairs and a large wooden writing desk - all the furniture was of high quality and the room was decorated to a very high standard. Although the room overlooked the street, we found it quiet. When they renovated from the building's previous use, they did a good job with the windows and soundproofing. The bathroom was modern and clean.

There is a free breakfast buffet available in the adjoining building. It appears this used to be an independent restaurant, but is now part of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was similar to what you would get in a Holiday Inn express - juice, coffee, waffles, toast, cereal, etc. but the seating area is more like a restaurant than a cafeteria.

Overall, we had no complaints with the hotel and were very pleased with our experience and would stay there again.
