Description: Welcome to our restaurant! We are a family-run Polish influenced restaurant, whose food is cooked with, above all else, love and care. All of our dishes are made by hand, from scratch, and the majority of these by our mama, Katherina. We offer many gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan slow-cooked options for the health-conscious customer. Our specialties are deliciously stuffed potato pancakes, tender pierogies, hearty soups, fresh salads and Polish beer not available in any other restaurant in Victoria! Whether it's dine-in or take-out, we look forward to serving you in our home-style atmosphere!

“Homemade is an honest ethos at SkinnyTato”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

I was a bit skeptical about all the positive reviews SkinnyTato had received in its short 1-year life, but after trying it last night I realize that my skepticism was quite misplaced. The tasty and varied food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere are really as good as everyone on TripAdvisor (and Yelp) say. Go to SkinnyTato for a taste of ethnic -- in this case, Polish -- Europe. You won't be disappointed, even if you tend to be a more adventurous eater. There's really no need to argue with a restaurant whose food does actually taste like you were eating it at the home of a very good cook and very sweet Polish "matka" (mother). The menu is quite small, but with only a few different main courses and a variety of delectable salads and sides, this is delightful comfort food, with an emphasis on relatively healthy eating (vegans and those who prefer gluten or dairy-free meals will be satisfied, as will meat-eaters, especially if they like pork). The owners are kind (Catarina took our 15-month-old son for a little tour of the restaurant to give us time to enjoy our meals in peace) but also worldly. Be sure to try the vodka, cucumber and apple juice drink, the Polish beer, and the Hungarian goulash; the salads are a highlight, so order as many as possible. Overall, a highly enjoyable meal and evening.

“Yummy yum yum”
Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed in Victoria for about 12 days and ate at Skinny Tato four times. We were staying nearby and it was the perfect food to grab for my husband and I after we'd put the children to bed! It's so tasty. The owners are so friendly that, as other reviewers have said, it's like having your own family cook for you. We can't recommend it enough.

“YUMMY FOOD, VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY, WARM SERVICE, DOWNTOWN”
Reviewed 28 January 2012

I simply cannot stay away from this place. I have been there five times in the last tow months, and salivate every time I think of it. I've had several filling in their crispy potato pancakes -- sauerkraut with sausage, sauerkraut with mushrooms. Every soup I've had has been scrumptious (beet borscht, creamy mushroom, lemon lentil) and they are all vegan. There are lots of vegetarian choices. The Polish hunter's stew was so tasty (meat and sauerkraut), and the desserts are marvelous. Located on Johnson Street in the heart of downtown. They have take-out too.

“Don't let the name fool you, there is nothing "Skinny" about this place!”
Reviewed 16 December 2011

From the food to the love, this place will fill you up! We were in on a damp December night and we left with our bellies full and our hearts warmed. The food is generous, hearty and satisfying with a home cooked taste. The owners are so warm and welcoming that you truely feel that you are among friends. The night we were there I noticed a few tables with lone diners. I guess if you are feeling lonely, this place will feel like home. It isn't a very so get there early. It would be a wonderful place to have a private party where you took over the entire restaurant for the evening!

“Sensational !”
Reviewed 12 December 2011

We found this little restaurant by accident and were we glad we did. Small, cosy, intimate, inviting and best of all food as good as we ate in Poland recently. Katharine and her partner are such amazing and friendly hosts we felt as if we were guests in their home. Such passion for what they do. Sausage and Pierogi to due for! We would be back in a heartbeat if we didn't live in Australia but we will be back!
