“Orcas!”
Reviewed 17 August 2015

I found them online and compared them to other companies. They are the only one with high speed solid hull speed boats. I picked them in part so I could get my 80 year old dad out to the whales fast in a boat that he would feel secure in....they have a couple boats that hold only 12 people. When we did the 1:30pm tour many people signed up so we took their newest boat, a cigarette style modified with comfy seats that held 25. This boat was fast and stable!

They got a report of a humpback and baby, and we zipped out 11 miles in 15 minutes and there they were!!!

Then, although the San Juan islands looked far off, we were there in 15 minutes and there was the J Pod of orcas eating fish along the island coast. There were many whale boats but ours could maneuver more quickly to get around and ahead of them.

The staff narrated everything, and knew everything about the whales and answered all questions. We saw several juvenile orcas and probably saw twenty overall...one giant male had a dorsal fin that must have been six feet tall!!!

The seas were a bit rough at times, but this boat was stable and fun to ride....we saw many smaller zodiacs that were bouncing around.

This company also said they were the first to hook up with the local whale conservation efforts and others followed their lead, part of your ticket is donated if I remember correctly.

Great times, dad loved it!!

Dear Lincoln O,
Thank you for taking the time to review your trip on Goldwing, our 26-passenger scarab! It is a great whale-watching boat as it combines the "thrill" of the zodiacs with a more stable platform; at 60 feet long it simply cuts through the waves rather than bouncing over them. Increased speed combined with longer tour times allows us to get out further, stay longer, and see more wildlife! I want to also thank you for mentioning our commitment to the environment - we collect a $2 "wildlife fee" from every passenger which is donated directly to two local organizations that help the whales: the Pacific Salmon Foundation and the Center for Whale Research. We were very pleased when other companies in Victoria started to do the same. We are also members of 1% For The Planet, and we do our best on a local scale to help with conservation initiatives as well as education.
I'm so glad you and your dad had such a great trip. We hope you'll join us again the next time you are in Victoria.

“A amazing vacation highlight!”
Reviewed 16 August 2015

Our whale-watching excursion with Eagle Wing was a highlight of our vacation to British Columbia. The staff on board were helpful, knowledgeable & made the overall experience both fun & highly educational. The captain obviously knew what he was doing & was very respectful of the whales & the environment. We were fortunate enough to see many of these amazing creatures & even witnessed a full breach. It was a profound & memorable experience for our family and we highly recommend Eagle Wing to anyone considering a whale watching outing.

Good morning Shari A,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Eagle Wing Tours. "Profound & memorable", "fun & highly educational" - this is exactly what we strive for. Of course, the whales deserve some credit too! I'm so glad that our respect for these animals showed through during your trip. We do our best to provide a great whale-watching tour while minimizing our impact on the whales themselves. I hope you will be able to join us again the next time you visit Victoria.

Hi Anette H,
I'm so glad we exceeded your expectations! Just seeing these animals is amazing, but the more people know about them, the better their experience will be, so I'm glad you were able to get to know them during your trip! One of our main goals is to send our guests away with a more profound knowledge of the whales, their environment, and the conservation initiatives that are in place to protect them.
Thank you for taking the time to review your trip. We hope to see you again during your next visit to Victoria.

“Best part of our trip!”
Reviewed 16 August 2015

The BEST part of our vacation! Well worth the money. I would give them ten stars if I could. Fantastic friendly and knowledgable staff and great covered boat. Excellent nature watching. We saw seals, sea lions, several humpback whales and then the orcas...omg... We saw a pod of five or six orcas young and old breaching out of the water as though they were putting on a show for us. It doesn't get any better than this!!!

Dear Ann O,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Eagle Wing Tours. Reviews like this make me wish I was still working on the boats instead of in the office! It sounds like you had an amazing trip with a plethora of wildlife. 4 Ever Wild (our new, luxury catamaran) is a great viewing platform. I hope you were able to take advantage of the upper deck and join the captain in his "office". He does have a great view!
We hope you'll join us again the next time you are in Victoria.

“5 Orcas! Amazing!”
Reviewed 16 August 2015

We read all the reviews before our trip and booked Eagle Wing with high hopes. It did not disappoint! We showed up for our 1:30 tour and were told the swells were 8-10 feet and we would need to re-schedule. No problem as we're on vacation and had plenty of time! We re-booked for the next day as did the rest of our group. The tours for the next day were all ready full, so they just brought in another boat and accommodated everyone. Don't book this tour for your last day in Victoria as it would be awful to not have the time to re-schedule it if necessary. We left at 9:30 the next morning and headed out at high speed for a little more than an hour. It was cold on the water, but they outfit you in rubber pants and a big jacket, hats and gloves. I was toasty warm in my rubber clothes - not attractive, but warm! Our guide kept us informed on where we were headed and that whales had been spotted. Along the way we were treated to some dolphin swimming along side our boat! As we got to the whales we stopped and it was so quiet on the boat that we could hear and see the air shooting out of their blowholes. It was amazing. We counted 5 Orcas and the male breached out of the water twice! Our guide said that doesn't happen very often. It was magical. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Victoria. It was worth every penny. We were in an open-air boat so the view was fabulous. Our guide was so informative about the whales and the area. This was my favorite thing we did in Victoria.

Dear GailDink,
Thank you for this informative review! I always recommend to everyone not to leave whale-watching to their last day in Victoria. Cancellations due to weather are few and far between, but they do happen on occasion, and we always try to accommodate everyone when they do. Thank you for your understanding that the weather is slightly out of our control! It sounds like you had a fabulous trip on one of our open boats (Goldwing, Serengeti or Eaglewing). As you mention, it is always cold on the water, but the jackets and pants we provide, while perhaps not the most stylish gear, are certainly welcome! The warmer you are, the more you'll enjoy the trip, so dressing warmly is a must!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip with us. I hope you'll join us again the next time you are in Victoria.
