This was a great tour with very friendly staff/guides! The guides were very friendly and informative. They helped us spot whales, told us what to expect, shared stories. They were great.
We saw LOTS of humpback whales, seals, sea lions and birds – even a bald eagle. No orcas, as it was kind of late in the season to spot them.
The tour itself was late October, on one of Eagle Wing's indoor/outdoor boats. The boats hold 50 (they told us), but we only had 20 or so on with us. That size was actually really nice because you could move around easily. I'd wonder how crowded it gets on deck with more people. The deck on the boat was one that you walked on, not one with the rows of seats.
The boat was large enough that I don't think the rocking was too bad. No one got sea sick. And we had all ages on board with us – young and old.
The boats launch from Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria, not too far from downtown. (We did walk, but may be a hike for some people.) Plan to spend some time walking around the docks – lots of pretty boats, cute floating houses, and a few restaurants. There are also some friendly seals that hang out by the docks and you can by fish to throw out to them.
In planning my trip, the Eagle Wing staff was very helpful giving me advice on how to get from Vancouver to Victoria, which ferry to take and what time to leave. They had to change the time of our tour due to weather, and they called me to see if that was okay and make sure I could still get there on time.
Would definitely recommend this tour, and hope to be back myself one day!
