I was at this park twice in the past week - it's easy access from the city: Burnside West Road to Prospect Lake Road to Munn's Road and then follow the signs. I like the park in the spring because of the wildflowers, it shines if you want to see wildflowers (Shooting Star Trail). I just like the park in general because it affords hours of hiking through a variety of country: high ridge, marsh, old forest, etc. The reason I was at the park twice in the past week is that there are great horned owl chicks in a tree on one of the trails - there are also rufous hummingbirds, and... well there's always something different and if you're a birder - it's great.

Our first outing to Francis King park saw us explore part of the Centennial Trail and then work our way toward the middle of the trail system. Compared to My Doug Park (also in Saanich), this one is not quite as well sign-posted. Our small amount of walking was mostly on single track which doesn't lend itself as much to chatting as you go.

The terrain is quite varied.

It's very quiet and rural and you really feel as though you're on your own in the middle of the forest. I totally recommend it to anyone wanting a leisurely 30 minute to stroll, to those who want to explore for hours.

This was our first experience at this beautiful location! Main entrance has an information center with washrooms at the back (non-flushing toilets) which were very clean! Pathways have been setup for all ages (young or old) as they are nicely identified. This 700 meter path is laid out with many benches or covered areas for individuals & or groups to enjoy. The gravel parking lot for your vehicle is adjacent to the pathway, please remember that the park is only open from dawn to dusk!

Francis king park is open all year round in victoria. It is a provincial park dedicated to preserving the local flora, some of which is endangered of our area. The main walk is able to accommodate walkers, and has a few benches along the way. There are interesting signs telling about what you can see around you. In the spring of course the local wild flower bloom ,including skunk cabbage, chocolate lily, some orchids and many more,
. The main path is easy but side patches can be steep and slippery and good only for strong hikers. But all in all it is a delight to amble through on both sides of the road. Across the road from the parking lot takes you to more boggy parts in one direction, and through cedar forest ,the other direction. Go and enjoy M
Nature beauty and proliferation, flowers birds and more.
