This is a great Church to admire if you like architecture and aesthetics. The St. Andrew's Roman catholic Cathedral stands quite in contrast to its modern buildings in downtown Victoria. A sort walk from the Hudson Bay area, this Cathedral is a classic example of High Victorian Gothic style architecture with its soaring columns and brick and stone work, this Cathedral built in 1892 was inspired by the Medieval Cathedrals of Europe.
The soaring tower and the perfect symmetry of the building is a great reflection of architecture that was reflective of the era. The Cathedral is definitely worth a stop in your Victorian Itinerary of places to see.

The Cathedral is across the street from the YMCA. Just behind the Courthouse. There is a grassy area at one side with a brick Labyrinth, if you enjoy the meditative walk.
The Cathedral is impressive especially if you haven't visited the notable ones in the UK or Europe. My favorite is finding the stone robin inside the cathedral. Hint: facing the altar, it is far right just past the front pews. Look way up, it is on the ledge of a tall column.
The story goes that construction of this massive cathedral stopped when discovering a mother robin and her nest. once the fledglings took flight construction restarted. They placed the stone or plaster replica in memory.
Volunteers can direct you to a self guided walking tour pamphlet.
It is open to the public and has regular evening vesper services or just take a seat and enjoy the silence and coolness on a hot summer day. Behind the altar is a clear glass view into a newer more modern addition with an unexpected modern stain glass,
It is enjoyable to sit and look enjoy the light streaming through the stain glass and see the various details. next door is an historic cemetary turned park with some very old headstones. lots of big trees if you want a spot for your takeout picnic.

I attended a concert by the Victoria Philharmonic Choir -- Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers. The ambiance of the cathedral is stunning, but the acoustics were the best I had ever experienced. Soloists singing at the front, at the back from the balcony added to the beauty of this work. I think we in Victoria were so privileged to hear this work sung in such an appropriate setting.

Beautiful stained glass windows, balcony seating as well as main level seating, amazing choirs. Masses are celebrated at several different times on Sunday and mass is always beautifully done!

More than a hundred years old this wooden cathedral is ornately decorated, and appears as small oasis of the peace and tranquility in the downtown core of Victoria. The Bishop can often be found ministering at this location when not traveling to the other churches in the diocese. It's a welcoming community with a traditional heart.
