We went to the Canoe Brewpub last night for some finger food and local beers and found ourselves in a pub with some real character. The location on the waterfront is great and would probably be a real cool, happening place during warmer months. Nonetheless, we sat inside in the lounge and thoroughly enjoyed the interior decor. The brick walls and huge log beams in the ceiling gave the building that old feeling; authentic to the days when it was built in 1894.
The service was a little lax, but we were there for the food and drink, not the service, so I can't complain.
The appetizers that we tasted were great. The sticky ribs are full of flavor; the mussels were cooked perfectly, but could have used a little more sauce in the dish; and the calamari was also cooked nicely! I would recommend these dishes to anyone!
As for the local beers to try... the beaver brown ale was one of the best dark beers I've enjoyed while here in Victoria, and my girlfriend really liked the red canoe lager!
We will definitely return!
