We went to the Canoe Brewpub last night for some finger food and local beers and found ourselves in a pub with some real character. The location on the waterfront is great and would probably be a real cool, happening place during warmer months. Nonetheless, we sat inside in the lounge and thoroughly enjoyed the interior decor. The brick walls and huge log beams in the ceiling gave the building that old feeling; authentic to the days when it was built in 1894.

The service was a little lax, but we were there for the food and drink, not the service, so I can't complain.

The appetizers that we tasted were great. The sticky ribs are full of flavor; the mussels were cooked perfectly, but could have used a little more sauce in the dish; and the calamari was also cooked nicely! I would recommend these dishes to anyone!

As for the local beers to try... the beaver brown ale was one of the best dark beers I've enjoyed while here in Victoria, and my girlfriend really liked the red canoe lager!

We will definitely return!

We had their samplers and must admit their beer is really tasty. We were too early for us to have a meal but we will be back for their beer for sure and try out the food as well.

There are several good brewpubs in Victoria and this is one of them. On the waterfront, with outside seating in the summer. Large renovated warehouse-like interior with lots of seating, without feeling crowded. Some inside seating has a bit of a view out to the harbour. Food and service are very good and there's always a good selection of in-house beer. Some excellent, some not ... try them all ;-)

Fun atmosphere, great beer, good food = one of my top choices for pubs in Victoria. The go to pubs being Canoe, Swans and Spinakers (all brew pubs). In the summer their patio wins out (though the Spinakers deck overlooking the inner harbour is a close second). My only complaint would be how crowded it gets inside at night. Swans is easier to get into in the evening so I'm more apt to visit Canoe for lunch or early dinner. If I'm there late I've been somewhere else drinking first and don't care that it's busy and loud.

Food choices are often limited compared to the competitors, but they are always well made. Their beer selection tends to be more limited than the other brew pubs as well, but is always good (if you're a craft beer lover). Cool old building as well.
