Description: The Breakwater Cafe & Bistro opened in Autumn 2012. Formerly known as the Ogden Point Cafe, the restaurant has been a staple in James Bay for nearly 20 years. Enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of beer while taking in the sunset from our patio, or pop into the cafe for a coffee or snack before a stroll on the breakwater.

Wow ... lovely little cafe sitting on Ogden Point for coffees, muffins, cakes - the view is fantastic and the staff friendly. The cruise ships sale by regularly. Even run into some old friends!

“A nice end to a walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013 via mobile

Staying with some locals we joined them for their regular Wednesday morning walk, having completed a 10km walk we stopped off for a bite to eat. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent, all reasonably priced with good portions.

“A terrible disappointment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2013

No longer the Ogden Point Cafe, it is now known as The Breakwater Cafe and Bistro. The service is slow. The food is bland and over-cooked. When the waitress asked how everything was, we let her know it was over cooked. She said she was sorry we chose that dish rather than try to fix it. She then brought us a check at full price, even though the salmon was inedible. I wrote my concerns on their facebook page, but the restaurant removed the comment without any comment back. Stay away at all costs!!!
It is definitely not what it used to be.

“A gem of a little restaurant right on the water with a spectacular view.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

It is right at the edge of the Cruise Ship Terminals at Ogden Point about a 15 min walk from downtown. Second floor above a dive shop lets you dine either inside or outside with a fantastic view of the Strait of Juan da Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. Dinner there at sunset is simply magnificent. Service was really good with just the right attention to us. Food was very attractively presented, wines excellent and prices very, very reasonable. Altogether a great dining experience without the usual high price. Mix of the local folk and a few off the three cruise ships docked a few yards away. This is where I will take my friends for great dining and a fantastic ambiance. Go for the food and service, stay for the pleasure of a wonderful dining experience.

“Saturday night fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013

A big group on a very busy Saturday night that was hot and sunny. Everybody was out walking the breakwater and the views from the café were incredible. How the staff managed to serve that many people, get it right and stay cheerful is a bit of a miracle. The food is mixed, fairly basic but comes with such enthusiasm it's hard to fault. Fine dining it is not but it's fun and cheerful. There are other places to go if it's about the food. We found it refreshing and laughed a lot more than normal. Good atmosphere and a lovely change of pace.
