Learn about Squamish and Lil'wat first nations and culture in this lovely centre. Buy lovely gifts in their shop or directly from the centre's artist in residence.
I thought this was fantastic. Building was stunning, exhibits including long boats, totem poles were great and the tour guides were fantastic. They were keen to point out this was a cultural centre and not a museum and think thats relevant.
My wife understands some of the many challenges First Nations have to go through, how families and children were treated, family's torn apart etc years ago. This was ignored and not touched on. I asked one of the guides in-directly and he skirted around the issue.
Worth waiting for a tour. You get so much extra info.
But don't let that detract, go there with an open mind. They are presenting their culture in a positive way and if more people understand their culture a little more after a visit, that can only be a good thing
They have a good shop and cafe on site downstairs, which I believe is external of the paid fee area.
A brilliant display of the history of the indigenous peoples and their culture. If you are a history buff it is certainly worth the visit!
Came here as an evening venue whilst at a conference. It was very very busy as the conference was quite large (not the fault of the venue but still).
We had been told we were getting a Squamish meal and cultural experience. The food was simply canapes and a few stations dotted about the room with standard buffet food, I was rather hungry after!
The dancing and art gallery were really good and I did learn a lot but overall I was a little underwhelmed.
We had a great time learning about Sqamish Lil'wat history, the guide was extremely knowledgeable about the First Nations. The displays were good, & there was lots to do & see. It also had a gift shop & a very nice cafe/restaurant. The outside area had been very well organised & we had great fun making rope. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
