“Good location”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Whistler. This Westin is in a good location (a couple of minutes to the lifts). We were staying on a Travelzoo voucher and so had a nice dinner included at the Aubergine grill on the Saturday night.
I have been to the spa on a previous location and wasn't impressed so didnt try it this time - it is expensive (i.e. $109 for a pedicure). The pool area doesn't have much seating around it but it has a gym, sauna and steam room so its not bad.
It's a typical Westin in that they charge $30 a day for parking and about $20 for wi-fi (plus other tourist charges or whatever they make up!) so it always ends up more expensive than you expect!
We enjoyed the room - the Westins always seem to have nice beds and we had a lovely kitchen area which was fully stocked. The service from the staff was good. The Lift cafe opposite the hotel did really nice coffees, breakfasts and pastries and seemed a lot more reasonable than eating at the hotel restaurant.

Having stayed at the Westin over Easter for 10 days I can confidently say it is far nicer then over half the hotels ranked above it. We had some friends staying at the Pan Pacific and our rooms were far nicer. The service was great as was the slope side ski valet however it would have been nice to collect your skis directly from the slop side in the mornings like in the afternoons. As someone else has stated the Wifi price was a rip off but I'm relieved to hear they are getting rid of this charge . The nicest hotel we visited (and we visited quite a few) was the new Four Seasons however it is not slope side and I believe far more expensive.

Stayed here in May 2012 for 2 nights as part of a work business trip. Here's what I liked:

- Friendly service & easy recognition of my SPG Gold status
- They have a free shuttle that will drive you anywhere you want around Whistler
- It is right across the street from the Whistler golf club (which wasn't open yet)
- The little bar on the 2nd floor of the hotel had good specials on Wednesday night (Strongbow and Big Rock I think)
- The rooms had nice kitchenettes and a mini bar if you needed it
- Bathroom was nice. Bath was separate from walk in shower

Here's what could have been better:
- Location is a bit to the east end of the village ; not too far but still slightly annoying to walk to some things
- Room was a bit small ; not bad but a bit on the small side. I was in a room with a single King
- Fortunately I was in the West Tower but if you are in the East Tower it is a convulted walk to get to your room
- Maid left crumbs on my counter (which were my crumbs) and overall didn't do an impressive job of cleaning the room

Room Tip: West tower - try to get one with a walk in shower

We had 11 nights here over Easter. We had booked a 2 bedroom Deluxe Suite which included
ski valet. What we got was a big apartment w 1 king and 1 queen size bed room. It had one kitchenette and one kitchen with a table for 4. Basically it was 2 hotel rooms with a door between. It became an apartment. It was perfect for a family w 2 older children. We had three tv's, three gas fires and two bathrooms. Lots of storage and nobody can say that it was small. To have the skivalet included was the best as it costs $ 8 per day per person!!! But the gorgeous staff wait below the piste at 3 pm every day and carry your skis back for you, it was verrrry nice! A minus for the broken washing mashine in our corridor, we "had to" go to the next floor and use one there. The hotels was fully booked over Easter and it was busy. Still, we slept very well in wonderful beds and it was so quiet! I am likely to stay here again if we return and would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Loved our 2 bedroom deluxe suite for 4-6 people

The Whistler Westin is one of the older Whistler Village ski lodges, and has been very nicely renovated [probably for the Olympics] - so the good news is that its in very good condition & really close to the ski lifts & village.
And there are lots more positives - its bright & comfortable, the staff are young & friendly and couldn't be more helpful, its dog friendly - and that's not just a policy, they really do like dogs, and the food is excellent [ we were there for a small convention and even the banquet & breakfast food was good].
Its completely non-smoking, rooms are nicely decorated in a rustic woodsy style & have gas fireplaces, beds are comfortable, and the mini suites have nice little kitchens.
So what's not to love ?
Its a Westin so they overcharge for everything - $30 a day parking, expensive wi-fi, $5 a bottle for water [Whistler is heavily into environmentalism & the Westin told me with a straight face that for environmental reasons they no longer provided free bottled water but I could if I wished buy it from the room fridge for $5 a bottle] and $15 wine marked up to $59 on the convention banquet wine list.
The foam pillows in our room were well past their best - lumpy & totally unsupportive - and when I called down to ask if they had memory foam ones on request, or indeed any better pillows was told the only pillows they had were the ones in the room. Somehow in a major hotel at this price point one expects better...
But the frosting on the cake was that when we rebelled about the truly bad cheap BC wine they were serving at the banquet and after a great deal of persuasion & half an hour's wait got a wine list, we discovered they were charging $59 for $15 wine + a $20 service charge, were out of the only 2 Shiraz at that price point - and when we settled on a California Cabernet they billed us for two bottles instead of the one we drank.
And it took me three days and a lot of emails to get it sorted out & taken off my bill..

Room Tip: West Tower rooms at the back face the forest about 15 feet away - these are seriously big trees and...

Nice location and lovely rooms-though not dissimilar to those in other good hotels.. But charging more than $15 a day for Internet access in the rooms is simply absurd, and bordering on "soaking the client" when WiFi is free in every STarbucks, Library, most coffee houses, almost every other hotel (including the lovely ones like the PanPacific and the Lodges in Whistler), 10 years ago maybe the charge was justified, but now, with the room prices, I think staying elsewhere is advisable if you need to use the Internet. Somehow, the principle of this charge cancels out the good things about this hotel. Avoid the Spa in the Westin (it is not connected to the hotel apparently, and the spa adds an 18% tip on top of the charge and 12% tax : the masseuses are not RMT unlike other hotel spas),. Order from the menu rather than the breakfast buffet.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor,

A nice quick visit to Whistler for two nights. Stayed at the Westin Resort and Spa. We "won" the two night stay at a fundraiser for the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research in Ontario. The hotel was nice and was in a great location. The staff were excellent, especially at reception. We did not eat any meals there and did not use the spa. The room was great and included kitchen facilities, which we used for breakfast and snacks. Close to all restaurants and grocery store in the village. It was a down week for Whistler with Whistler chair lifts and the Peak to Peak lift closed. Hit the rainy season but managed a hike around Lost Lake and a day of skiing in the clouds at Blackcomb. 7th Heaven lift was open and it was a glorious sunny blue sky day up there above the clouds. Pacific Coach lines bus service was great - caught a bus at the airport directly after arriving from Toronto, which took us right to Whistler. Return bus took us to our downtown Vancouver hotel.
