“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2012

We went to Telus last weekend and booked through the Whistler site. Aava is very nice and great location. We were told we had been upgraded to a superior King room, however our room faced the back side and I don't know what was superior about it. Since we were on the fourth floor, we had high ceilings, the only disadvantage was that there were no window coverings on the upper windows and we were awoken early due to the light streaming in. The room had a mini fridge and we got breakfast from the White Spot across the street which was super convenient. We didn't spend much time in the room and for what we paid, I was happy, however, I had friends that stayed at another location in the Village for slightly less money and they got way more (bigger room, kitchenette and view of the mountain) for their money. At the end of April you have a lot of choices, so think about what you want in your accommodation and go from there. There was nothing wrong with Aava, but there are places with more amenities for the money.

I shopped around on the internet quite a bit before choosing the Aava. This was our first time to Whistler, and it was our honeymoon! We stayed in one of the executive suites. It was a nice, large room, but something about the layout and decor still felt a little bit like a mid-rate business hotel. It didn't have the amenities and service that you would expect at a full scale hotel such as the Hilton or Westin. But... you simply cannot beat the price in this location. While I might not recommend it for a honeymoon (if you have the cash to go fancier), I would certainly stay there again when we return to Whistler. The hot tub was also really nice, but usually packed full of people around 5pm, once the lifts had closed. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there are numerous pizza "to go" menus (they will deliver) and a White Spot right across the street. For those of you Americans, like myself, who've never been to a White Spot, it's kind of like a Perkins or a Denny's.

Room Tip: If you can splurge for one of the suites on the top floor, it is very quiet and spacious.

We stayed for three nights and found the staff was extremely nice and helpful. Everything we asked they helped us with great recommendations. We really liked staying so close to the village and the slopes. The rooms were quite small but we didn't need much space.

I was very impressed with this place. Stayed in a standard room for about $130 and it exceeded all of my expectations. The room was large, cleaned to a very high standard every day, with plenty of closet and drawer space. Not that Whistler village is noisy but the fact that it is not in the centre means that there is no real noise at night which certainly aids sleeping. Staff were always very helpful whenever I asked anything of them, early check-in, recomendations for bars and restaurants.

The hotel is located across the road from the entrance into the main village, so we're talking about a 3 min walk into the village compared to the hotels located in there. Hot tub and pool are a decent size but the gym is pretty limited, but tends to be under utilised as people there are generally on active holidays anyway. One minor quibble would be having to walk across the road to get breakfast at The White Stuff, so needing to put coat and shoes on, but the food and service in there were always very good, so not such a big deal.

I would highly recomend the place.

Although the service was friendly and helpful, the bed in our room was quite uncomfortable. I woke up each morning with a sore lower back. I thought it might be the skiing but the first night in another bed proved that wasn't the case. The noise from the village was non-existent but there was a lot of noise from the room above us. It was regular walking noise but was quite loud. I would choose a different hotel next time I'm in Whistler.

We stayed in the Aava Whistler for 2 special nights - lovely hotel, good location (just 5 minute walk to the centre of the village) & friendly staff. The beds are super comfortable & rooms perfect. You just feel so comfortable here. There is a hot tub & pool, but this was busy both nights so I didn't use.
