Owner description: Discover Whistler's original summer activity the legendary River of Golden Dreams and scenic Alta Lake – The flat water river is more than just a float it’s a Exploring Adventure. Beaver, Eagles, Osprey, Heron’s and even Black Bears are regular sights will have you eagerly wondering what’s around the next bend in the river including spectacular views of mountain peaks in a natural environment. Our River trips have limited availability and often sell out, please pre book to assure your spot. Unlike an amusement park ride River of Golden Dreams trips allow you to be an active participant. One of the reasons people keep coming back to paddle the river is it is different every time they come. In the spring the water levels can be high and moving though always flat and no rapids. By mid-summer water levels are gentle. By late summer the beaver start rebuilding their dams creating pools to paddle in. Water levels are low and steering the boat properly avoids obstacles. Guides are recommended though experienced river paddlers go unguided. It’s most certainly not what you expected. Our staff present river orientations to make this a fun, eco-friendly, educational exploring outing. Located at Lakeside Park minutes from Whistler Village. Free Transportation is available for River of Golden Dreams Tours from all Whistler Village hotels and vacation/ holiday accommodations.

Great fun absolutely loved it . Now to be honest I'd never been in a canoe before so when guide said nobody had ever capsized before and I went straight over it wasn't a good start . The lake was a bit choppy but once we got going it was a lot easier. Had a blast going on the river after leaving the lake . Was pretty easy once got hang of it . Our group was mix of people but our guide was terrific . Water cold but not too bad tbh . I went over twice and was tbourghly soaked but can't wait to try again Water isn't very deep . Would recommend it.

We rented kayaks for the river of golden dreams last week. It was a very pretty paddle and we had a fun time. Weather wasn't fantastic but we still really enjoyed it. Backroads whistler was easy to fine and were a great help - thanks!

I grew up in Whistler and paddled the river many times in my teens so I thought it would be fun to do it with my kids. We all had a good time but it isn't worth the price. A better idea would be drive over to Meadow Park and lock a bike up there, rent a canoe at wayside park to go out on the lake, paddle the river and pull the boat out at meadow park. Hubby jumps on bike and burns back to wayside via valley trail, grabs car, drives back to meadow park where kids have been happily playing at the water park, load canoe onto vehicle and return. This all provided you have a roof rack and tie downs. Of course the companies may have policies in place to prevent this. But a family of four shouldn't have to pay $250 to paddle for two hours. But if you have the cash, it is fun. It is very easy paddling and more about the views than the paddling itself.

Good morning Chelan2015
Thanks for your review

Yes there are many options on how to organise River of Golden Dreams paddles.
the boat bike shuttle is one for sure that can be fun for the whole family.

You will remember back some years ago the river was just that, a beautiful paddle as it still is.
As Whistler became a popular summer destination for international guests with a manicured village, signage etc we found we needed to help unguided guests with wayfinding, safety back up, rescue trails, orientations, maps etc etc. That of course combined with government licensing fees, habitat fees, environmental costs, equipment and permits (the list goes on) pricing had to change. We do offer several prebooked options and discounts for repeat guests like your selves.
Please feel free to ask us next time you book.
As well we at Lakeside Park do offer any combination of boat outing you can come up with including renting the boat and bringing it back yourself.

This was the highlight of our trip to Whistler. We had a beautiful day on a nice river with an incredible view. The river has just the right amount of slow and fast areas to keep the tour interesting. The only downside is running into teens with cheap inflatable rafts clogging the river. Luckily we only encountered two groups and they quickly made room for us to pass.

Even though we went on a rainy day (not too cold), kayaking the River of Golden Dreams was wonderful. Of course, we had rain gear on; jacket and pants. We navigated the river without a guide and were picked up right at the time we were supposed to. The watercraft were light and easy to maneuver and the river was a delight. Do not bring personal belonging; they may end up in the river. We saw others bring snacks (really?). The staff were helpful and wonderful. A very positive experience.
