We just arrived home from staying at Great Bear Camping for 8 nights. We have camped here over the years and we always enjoy coming back. Everyone around is very friendly especially the lovely lady owner! Its beautiful on the water and the kids love the pool. We will definitely return this summer and I would recommend this campground to other families!

Cute little campground around 45 mins from Fredericton. We tented at the Plateau and its fantastic. Very private treed large site. You are two feet from the water. I stuck my lawn chair in the water and basked in the sun while watching the boats go up and down the river. Two picnic table and firepot. Great spot! Definitely recommened the plateau!!

I was looking for a campground not far from home as I have two little children, and my husband and I decided to try Great bear Campground. We live in Fredericton so if things didn't work out, we wouldn't have been too far from home. It was our first time camping with the kids. We have a 9-month old baby boy and a 4-year old daughter. What a great time we had! The owner and the staff are wonderful people. Very warm and welcoming. The place is extremely clean and the campers are really good. They have a lot of regulars and I definitely understand why people are coming back. It's a wonderful spot. We'll definitely be back!

As a seasonal camper for a number of years at Great Bear I would like to make following comments on the poster Michael T review.

Great Bear has a number of seasonal campers that have been there for many many years in some cases. Everyone helps each other out and those that pull in for a weekend or month. I have camped for many years travelling around until I decided to take a seasonal at Great Bear. Having camped at alot of camp grounds, you see the difference at Great Bear with friendly campers and very nice sized lots compared to a number of other campgrounds that have you 5 feet away from next lot. If you look at what other camp grounds charge for seasonals, you will find Great Bear is priced fairly for what you get in lot size alone and view/access to water. Other campgrounds near Breat Bear charge anywhere from $1700 to $4500 for a seasonal lot. Most don't have access and view to water, so you must consider that in deciding how much you are willing to pay for what you get. I agree there is no store but there is one 15 minutes or so to Fredericton or to Nackwick. No wifi, well most campgrounds in NB don't have cable or wifi, for most of us, we have our own wifi on a Rogers or Bell stick and sat TV if that is what you want. There is no public dock, but there is a public launch and public beach access. A number of seasonal have docks and to my knowledge the owners of these docks never complain when someone pulls to dock to get people on boat.

As a seasonal, you get a package from the owner at beginning of year, that clearly outlines dates the campground is open. It clearly states that the campground closes on Labor Day weekend, and if you choose to stay longer the fee you pay is to: (1) leave power connected or (2) stay a night. It should not be a surprise to anyone when end of season ends and the fees charged after that date.

Demographics are changing. The campground in last 2 years or so has seen more kids camping. I know owner is looking at installing a playground so kids have a slide, monkey bars etc (there is one now with swings)...A new salt water pool was also installed this year.

As for campground activities, there were some if people wanted to participate. This year we had 3 weekend nights of fireworks, a potluck dinner, kid activities and a washer toss tournament.

I am a seasonal camper at Great Bear and let me tell you... WE LOVE IT! We are a family of 6 with 4 children (ages 4,8,10,13) and we going seasonal was a choice we have never regretted.

We were "weekenders" for a few years and here is a list of what we liked most as visitors:

Clean

BEAUTIFUL LOTS

Immaculate pool

No canteen for kids to drive us crazy with

Friendly staff

Felt very welcomed

Owner very attentive

Water front lots

Washer and dryer available

These factors were what led us to go "seasonal" and now here is a list of what we enjoy now:

All of the above still apply

A true family atmosphere

Planned activities from "the great Canadian tomato challenge", fireworks every long weekend, a band hired to perform on a dock for our "year end party",washer toss tournament, and much more

Fellow campers have pitched in to "show us the ropes"

We were there during hurricane Arthur along with several other campers (seasonal as well as visitors) and it was amazing to see everyone come together to help each other! There were weekenders who didn't have enough food or gas since we were all stranded and they had nothing to worry about! They help us save docks, save trailers from falling trees, tie awnings etc and nobody went hungry! It was heart warming to watch everyone pitch in!

There are tons of kids around

The staff is WONDERFUL! From the owner to the man who does maintenance... They are all great!

Great communication

Owner is involving campers in plans for a bigger and better playground for the kids

No bidding for lots so our lot is "ours" for as long as we want it

I was going to do a list of pros and cons but I realized the list would be quite uneven!! The only con would be that eventually summer comes to an end!

We are very excited to return next year.

Thanks Great Bear for everything!!
