Was here for a conference. Screwed up my booking and then spent the 2 nights in a room next to the squeeky grinding elevator... Resturant is way overpriced and the location is far from anything in the city unless you are looking to buy a car. Towels are good to use as sandpaper. Room was clean. Bed was very uncomfortable. Would not reccommend this hotel

Room Tip: one away from the elevators

Restaurant was good - a good place to go. Especially for breakfast. The location etc, however, is unremarkable and pretty much "away" from most interesting parts of the city.

We have stayed at the Capital on a couple of occsions in the last 2 months. The price was the initial attraction. It's a decent room at a great price. Jack's restaurant downstairs is amazing. The food is great and the service is even better. The bar is also fairly nice. The front desk staff is adequate. I plan to stay there for a conference in August. The one drawback for us is the distance from downtown. I would recomend the Capital. It's an average hotel, clean and a good price.

Room Tip: Book online for the best price.

The check-in service, the housekeeping service and the restaurant were all ok -- good and solid with no surprises (good or bad). However, they seem to try to compete price-wise with downtown hotels and they are simply not in that category; decent, thicker towels and better quality bedding would go a long way -- their 'frugality' shows. Location sucks; close to the major mall for shopping or a movie, but absolutely nothing pretty about the area and nowhere to even go for a walk. Ok for a place to lay your head and grab a meal, but no more than that.

All aspects of the hotel were average - rooms clean and adequate, largely nondescript - and the front desk service was surprisingly unhelpful in a city and province where the locals are largely (and rightly) known for being friendly/hospitable. Even a discounted rate of $99 seemed high for the quality of hotel.

The worst feature of the hotel is location - Kenmount Road is very busy, and utterly without charm. There is very little in the area other than businesses and there is none of the charm that makes St. John's a great place to visit. The stretch of road by the hotel is further worsened by the fact there are no crosswalks or traffic lights in close proximity - traffic dodging to cross the street is the game of choice. The hotel is a good 15 minute drive from downtown as well, presuming it is not rush hour (the road is very busy in the morning and late afternoon). Many, many better options in St. John's exist.

New hotel along a strip of car dealerships - nowhere near anything. Not close to downtown and not close to the airport. If you want to see St-John's and stay here be sure to drive or rent a car.

Reception staff is hit or miss.

In terms of meeting facilities, they look lovely and very new.
However, they have very thin walls. Beware.

As for the guest rooms, the first thing that hits you on any floor is the smell of smoke. I was on a non-smoking floor and it was oppressive. The room, thank god, was fresher smelling though it overlooked a parking lot for a car dealership (one of the better views in the place). It was relatively clean.

Internet (which is supposedly free) was a pain. They ask you to come to the front desk to put a deposit on an ethernet cable but they had run out when I asked right after check-in (4pm). I had to walk to the store (about 2km down the highway) and back to buy one (they did not reimburse the expense). In addition, the manager informed me that they "did not believe in wireless access because it was harmful for guests." More like they're cheap, but whatever. If it had actually worked for more than 30 minutes, it would have been ok but it went down at around 6pm and stayed down all night. Very very annoying since there was nothing else to do around there.

The "business centre" is like a closet with an old-school computer and internet access (if it's working). When I requested access (I had time to kill before my flight and the hotel had declined a 30-minute delayed check-out) the person with the ONLY key to it had gone on lunch.

As for the restaurant, it was... overpriced and trying too hard to be fancy. The mussels were great but the rest was very average or below.

Overall, the only redeeming quality was that the hotel is new. However, it's so obviously cheaply made that it's sure to be run into the ground in no time. I'd never stay here again. It was a soul-destroying experience.
