Mary and Louie are great hosts and run a wonderfully comfortable B&B. I'd stay there again without hesitation. I was satisfied with location, breakfast, and the bedrooms. I don't think you'll regret staying here.

Mary and Lou were the most gracious hosts. Rooms spacious and spotless! Yummy breakfasts! Loved the old house and all it's character. Felt like walking up my Nanny's stairs.
The view form the deck was the best. Facing east, the sunrise, the harbour and Signal Hill, Can't think of a better way to start and end the day watching the boats come and go.

Room Tip: private bath's for the second floor rooms.

This was our second visit to Cantwell House. The hosts, Mary and Louis, couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. They are just the nicest people, and "real" Newfoundlanders. The rooms are lovely, clean as a whistle, with comfortable beds and great bathrooms with luxurious towels, everything you could ever need. The top floor has a great deck with big chairs that looks out over the beautiful St. John's harbour. The dining room is one big table so that guests can meet and exchange experiences, and the breakfast--what can I say? Eggs Benedict! Delicious. Cantwell House is within walking distance of museums, shops, and George Street. This is the best B and B we have ever stayed at. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Was shifted due to an overbooking to this lovely B&B. Fabulous view of the harbour from sitting room upstairs. Lovely, quiet bedroom. Owners are very helpful re: city sights & restaurants. Breakfast was delicious & large, featuring local specialties, e.g., bakeapple jam.

What a great find! Mary and Louie were the perfect host and hostess. We had the two rooms on the third floor and enjoyed the guest lounge and the balcony every day....great view of the city and the harbour...perfect for watching the boats come and go while enjoying a glass of wine. The rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were yummy!!! We enjoyed great conversations with Mary and Tessa every morning and could have lingered all day sharing stories. They gave us great recommendations and even had a parking permit for us to use so we could park on the street without having to walk to far to the house. I would stay there again without hesitation and look forward to our next visit in St. Johns ... I would even stay on the third floor !!!! This B and B is a keeper!!!!

Room Tip: Staying on the third floor of this property was ideal. The guest lounged was right outside our bedroom door and the lounge led out to the balcony that overlooked the city and the harbour. It has like having your own special space even though we had to share it with other guests. We had both rooms on the third floor and shared a bathroom which worked out for us. If you were only in one room and sharing a bath with someone you didn't know this arrangement may not work so well. Third floor could also be a problem for someone that has trouble with stairs.
