Had lunch today at the Merchant Tavern. Started with a double Caesar and the wife had a Chardonnay. Caesar was excellent she enjoyed the wine. The wife ordered a tea biscuit with maple butter to start. She thought it was the best in the land. I ordered the Montreal Smoked meat sandwich and the wife got the BLT. Smoked sandwich and hash browns were great. Highly recommended. The BLT was huge. Wife barely finished it and had to get her salad to go. Julie was out waitress and was top notch. Restaurant is very modern with a moose head mounted above the door. Our table was close to other guests, we could reach over and eat their food if we wanted is my only criticism of this place.

checked out this establishment based on reviews and was disappointed. The food was not the best, it was busy but manageable. Staff was great, very friendly and accommodating but the prices were too high for the quality of food. Definitely not my first, second or third choice in downtown St. John's

This an upscale pub, very nice decor, attentive and friendly service and wonderful food. Highly recommended for a nice meal in downtown St Johns.

WE were very excited to get a reservation at this restaurant. The ambience is great. Unfortunately the food is not ! 6 people ordered pasta and not 1 of them said it was great. It was "OK" they said. It was overcooked. How does that happen? Someone ordered a salad and discovered it was missing a key ingredient . When they asked the waitress about it her response was "we ran out of it". Really? They comped the salad which is of course what they should have done, It should never have been served in the first place! I ordered the steak frites so I was the lucky one as it was delicious! However I ordered rare and it came medium rare.

Have been here many times - food and drinks are usually great. Unfortunately, the last few visits have been less than stellar and our most recent one was the worst by far. Very rude waitress, mediocre meal, bland cocktail and rushed service. Emailed the GM who was unapologetic. Sad to say I won't be back anytime soon!
