On our tour of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador we had decided we wanted to stay overnight in Shelburne. We found Cooper's Inn on the net and got the Harbour Suite right on the top of the building. Excellent, large, charming accomodation in the old world style! Great large bathroom and beautiful view of the museums buildings and the port. The location couldn't be better and the breakfast was the best on the whole tour. So beautifully served and every detail taken care off. We had a lovely stay, even though it was just for one night, and would love to come back again another time. We had a great meal in The Sea Dog Saloon few steps away and enjoyed the sunset over the bay.... Two Norwegians on tour...

An absolutely beautiful Inn located right on the waterfront....we stayed in the Smith Room...it's a lovely room that opens to the garden but the wifi Internet does not work in this room and the shower is like trying to take bathe in a 2 x 2 square....I did not like the "hard sell" for Charlotte's Lane, I appreciate that it's the owners favorite restaurant but it is a pretty pricey restaurant and had I not checked online before hand I would not have known.

We stayed in the Smith room, the smallest room, which was fine for a one-night's accomodation. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom, clean and modern. There were chocolates and a small bottle of wine waiting for us, a nice touch. Our room, in addition to having a private entrance, walked out onto a shared patio, beautifully designed; however, when we were in our room and other guests were using the patio, their voices carried a little too much, even with the windows closed. We enjoyed the breakfast (included in price) very much; it was great to have so many options, and great to have a table for just two of us.

Remember - this is an Inn, not a B&B, so the hosts may not be as interactive/friendly as you might be expecting otherwise. For us, this wasn't an issue, as the "social" aspect of B&B's (with both hosts and fellow travellers) can get a little intense for us sometimes, so we welcomed a little less interaction.

The Inn is on the waterfront and in walking distance to all the Shelburne museums and other historic sites. It is a beautiful, well-kept property, and if we're ever in Shelburne again, we'll choose to stay here. It has the benefits of a B&B (nice room, good breakfast), with more privacy.

We stayed for 2 nights. We stayed in the Thomas Crowell room, which was as seen on the website photos. For us, with 2 suitcases that were not being unpacked, the room was rather over furnished which left little floor space to lay out our cases. Having said that, it was very comfortable, the massage chair was a clear favourite of my husband, the bay window offered lovely views of the waterfront and the complimentary 1/2 bottle of wine and biscuits for each day of our stay was a nice touch. In particularly, I loved the pod coffee machine. The breakfast appeared to be in allocated time slots, which I expect assists the 'kitchen', but as we checked in first had first pick. You pick from a menu and when the food arrives it is beautifully presented and delicious to eat. I would stay here again, although the information pack in the room suggests this place is up for sale ...

Management response:Responded June 28, 2012

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review of our property, and we are happy you enjoyed your stay. The Cooper's Inn continually strives to make our guests comfortable. Your comment about the floor space in Thomas Crowell Room sent us upstairs right away to view the situation. We could see how that might have been a problem and have taken immediate action. We have replaced the free standing oval mirror with a lovely framed full length wall mounted one. We have also removed the little electic fireplace in the alcove (no one ever used it to our knowledge) and have moved the table (used for luggage storage) to the alcove. These two little changes have freed up quite a bit of floor space. We appreciate you pointing this out to us.

My wife and I spent 2 wonderful nights at Cooper's Inn. Pat gave us a warm welcome and gave us a tour. It's a beautiful historic home and delightfully decorated. We had the Thomas Crowell room with a bay window overlooking the harbour. A nice touch is the bottle of wine and cookies each day. Also loved the massage chair. The breakfast offered a good menu choice. Great service.
The Inn is centrally located along Dock Street. Try Charlotte's Lane restaurant for dinner. You won't regret it and it's less than 5 minutes away.
