“A thick slice of heaven on earth.....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2012

I don't believe there is another place like the trail on the east coast of North America. The combination of mountains and seaside is unique and awe inspiring.

Over the years I have done the 330K trip around the Cabot Trail more times than I care to count. I have done it with my parents as a child and in recent years with my spouse and/or children.

I have experienced it going east from Cheticamp to Ingonish and also the 'hother way going west from Ingonish. I have also seen it in every season from wonderful summer days, to the colours of the fall, to a scary decent of MacKenzie mountain in a snowstorm.

In recent years my spouse & I have taken to doing the trip on a bicycle. While this is not a ride to be taken lightly it is my view a trip that borders on the spiritual. We do it over three days, unsupported riding from hotel to hotel.

While doing the trail in a car is great with a multitude of photo ops it cannot compare to the bike experience. One not only gets the satisfaction of doing the trip under ones own steam, the bike slows down the pace enough so that you are immersed in the environment in a way that unique. There is also the 'excitement' of careening down the multiple mountains with the wind in ones face. If you don't feel truly alive after zipping down MacKenzie mountain @ 60K+ on a bicycle, I would suggest you never will...;).

A visit to this place is one that I would suggest be added to everyone's bucket list.

Going around the Cabot Trail by car, bike, motorcycle... its is an amazing experience! I recommend doing the cabot trail in the early fall with all the colors of the trees ablaze and the air warm but just a little bit crisp... Come and see for yourself....

Most amazing drive you can make! Take your time and enjoy the drive. Stop in the small towns like Bay St. Lawrence and Meat Cove.
