After visiting Louisbourg, our next night stay was in Margaree, so we went via the Cabot Trail. For the most part it was an enjoyable drive, but be warned there are some rough areas along the route. We also encountered heavy road construction. But all in all there were some great views. We used GPS and at the start it took us to a ferry landing that was closed, but we found our way around. It is a fairly long drive, and the speed limit is slow most of the way, so plan accordingly. I also recommend filling up with gas before starting. Places to eat along the route are limited. Take advantage of the many pull offs to see the sights. We did the counter clockwise route and didn't have any issues.

Scenic drive with many overlooks. Takes about six hours with stops to view and to have lunch. I have to say the views are not overwhelmingly gorgeous, just nice.

I love this drive unfortunately on one day they had thick peasoup fog so we were unable to see very much on the higher altitudes.
They continue to do improvements on their roads and they have started to include a bicycle lane.
If you drive from the ingonish to cheticamp the pulls off on the road for the vistas are on the right side.
We did the franey hike this time. Bring a sun hat, sunscreen, water and lunch. The hike is uphill for approx 4km them downhill the rest.
Vista is breathtaking.

The Cabot Trail is a 300 km loop drive over the top of Cape Breton Island with the Gulf of St. Lawrence on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. It is best to take your time driving the Cabot Trail since the scenery is beautiful. There are places to stop to relax and take photos. Although it is a spectacular drive, construction will slow you down, plus there are many places where all you see are trees and more trees. Still, it is a drive I always wanted to do and I'm glad I did.

We spent one day touring the Cabot trail, exiting on a few trails. The scenery was beautiful. I would recommend the trail for a day or two if one has the time.
